Lenoir mother faces murder, child abuse charges in infants 2023 fentanyl death

LENOIR, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- After more than two years of investigation, the Lenoir Police Department has arrested a woman in connection with the 2023 death of her child.

Paige Blue was taken into custody on April 30 following her extradition from Lee County, Florida.

The arrest stems from an incident that happened on March 16, 2023. Around 6:00 a.m., officers and emergency medical teams were called to a home on Forrest Hill Park Place in Lenoir. When they arrived, they found a 7-month-old baby unresponsive and in cardiac arrest.

First responders began life-saving efforts, including CPR, but despite working for nearly an hour, the infant was pronounced dead at 6:50 a.m.

An investigation was launched by the Lenoir Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, which led to a disturbing discovery: the child had died from fentanyl toxicity. A lethal dose of the synthetic opioid was found in the infant’s system.

Investigators obtained arrest warrants for Blue, charging her with murder and felony child abuse. Authorities said additional charges may still be filed.

Blue is currently being held without bond. She is expected to appear in Caldwell County District Court on Thursday, May 1.
