Law enforcement has released the name of a Skyline-area resident who was fatally shot last weekend, reportedly by his adult son.
Luis Godinez Gonzalez, 56, was found gravely wounded at his home in the 8200 block of Skyline Drive on Sunday, according to the San Diego Police Department. Paramedics took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The events that led to the discovery of the fatal shooting began shortly before 8:30 a.m. that day, when a 911 caller reported hearing a gunshot and seeing a man — later identified as the victim’s 35-year-old son, Adrian Raul Godinez — walking with a gun in his hand a few blocks from where his father lived, SDPD Lt. Lou Maggi said.
As patrol officers arrived, they received a report of an attempted robbery and non-injury shooting that had just occurred at a liquor store in the immediate area. While searching for the perpetrator, they saw Adrian Godinez walk into the backyard of the house he shared with his father, according to police.
“They observed blood on the (suspect) and blood near the front door of the residence,” Maggi said. “Officers set (up) a perimeter around the property and called for the assistance of (a) SWAT team.”
As police awaited the backup personnel, they watched as the suspect allegedly handled a gun and undressed behind the home. He eventually put down the weapon, re-clothed himself and surrendered, the lieutenant said.
Officers then entered the house and found the fatally wounded victim.
Investigators believe that the deadly shooting took place about a half- hour prior to the attempted commercial holdup, according to police.
The suspect was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, where he was being held without bail pending arraignment.
