KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A woman was tragically killed after an early morning apartment fire that displaced multiple families, according to the Kings Mountain Police Department.
Around 4 a.m. on Wednesday, officers received multiple reports of a structure fire at the Green Tree Apartments on Charles Street. When crews from the Kings Mountain Fire Department arrived, they found one of two apartment buildings fully engulfed in flames.
Two apartments were destroyed and six suffered serious smoke and water damage, displacing several families, officials said. Sadly, 45-year-old Evelyn Blakeney was killed during the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Cleveland County Fire Marshal's Office and the Kings Mountain Police Department. Anyone with information should contact KMPD at 704-734-0444.
