Ravi Shastri blocks Vaibhav Suryavanshis entry in Team India

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has discussed what lies ahead for Vaibhav Suryavanshi after his sensational century for the Rajasthan Royals against the Gujarat Titans in the ongoing IPL 2025.

The 14-year-old has become the talk of the town after smashing his way into the record books thanks to the historic 35-ball century against the Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday (April 28).

He became the youngest player in history to score a T20 hundred and also broke the record for the fastest hundred by an Indian in the IPL.

He scored 101 runs off 38 balls with the help of 7 fours and a six. Thanks to his knock, the Rajasthan Royals thrashed the Gujarat Titans by 8 wickets and returned to winning ways after losing five matches in a row. Chasing 210 runs, the Royals crossed the finishing line inside 16 overs.

He's young, just let him play: Ravi Shastri on Vaibhav Suryavanshi

With Vaibhav Suryavanshi becoming the talk of the town, Ravi Shastri has cautioned that the batsman is still young and should be left alone so that he can focus only on his game.

Shastri stated that Suryavanshi will be facing failures in the coming days, and his career will depend on how he deals with those setbacks.

The former India all-rounder began by saying that Suryavanshi made a big impression on him on the very first ball he faced in the IPL.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi hit the first ball he faced in his IPL career for a six as he scored 34 on his debut against Lucknow Super Giants.

"I think the first shot he ever played (against Lucknow), that would have taken everyone's breath away," Shastri told host Sanjana Ganesan on The ICC Review.

"But he's young, just let him play. I would say just let him play a bit because it's at that age, there's bound to be failure as well. It's how he handles failure, as people will come up with new things."

Shastri wants Vaibhav Suryavanshi to get more mature

Speaking further, Shastri said that Vaibhav Suryavanshi is likely to face some short stuff in the upcoming games.

The former cricketer-turned-commentator stated that the bowlers won't be considering his age after being hit for a six and are expected to bowl bouncers at him.

Ravi Shastri stated that one can make a proper judgment about the batsman only after seeing him deal with tough situations like facing a barrage of short deliveries.

"There'll be lots of short stuff thrown at him the next time he comes out to bat because when you tonk someone's first ball for six, then you show no mercy," he said.

"Then you don't care whether he's 14 years old or 12 years old or 20 years old. The menu is the same that you dish out. So, he'll have to get used to that and once we see him handling that then you can make a proper judgement," added Shastri.
