DRS April 29: Sachin Tendulkar in awe of Vaibhav Suryavanshi, KL Rahul in T20Is & IPL to add 20 more matches?

What were you doing at 14? Well, a certain Vaibhav Suryavanshi was killing it in the biggest franchise cricket stage. At just 14 years, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener brought the entire cricketing world on its feet by hammering the quickest IPL hundred (as an Indian) and the second fastest overall. The Gujarat Titans (GT) had no answers to Suryavanshi’s mayhem as he clubbed his way to a marvelous 35-ball 100. The innings was so special that it forced even the ‘God of Cricket’ Sachin Tendulkar to wax lyrical about him. Apart from this, Delhi Capitals’ mentor Kevin Pietersen has batted for KL Rahul to have a spot in the Indian T20I team. Moreover, there’s a massive possibility that we might see 94 matches in an IPL season going forward. Catch this and more below.

Sachin Tendulkar on Suryavanshi

Let alone human beings, even ‘God of Cricket’ is in awe. Sachin Tendulkar is absolutely blown away by Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s record-breaking century in the IPL! The 14-year-old’s fearless approach and incredible bat speed have caught the attention of the cricketing legend. Tendulkar praised Suryavanshi’s ability to pick the length early and transfer the energy behind the ball, calling his innings “fabulous”. It’s amazing to see someone so young dominating the game like this. With Tendulkar’s seal of approval, it’s clear that Suryavanshi is a talent to watch out for. Read more here.

    Vaibhav Suryavanshi, take a bow

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s electrifying knock has left the cricketing world in awe. The 14-year-old phenom’s 35-ball century against the Gujarat Titans was just jaw-dropping. Suryavanshi’s innings was a masterclass in power-hitting, as he dismantled the Titans’ bowling attack with ease. At an age where most kids are still playing gully cricket (that too, not superbly), Suryavanshi is rewriting the record books and redefining the boundaries of what’s possible. He hit the fastest IPL ton as an Indian, the fastest century by an RR player, the youngest century-maker in IPL history and the youngest-ever T20 ton. Read more here.

    More IPL matches in 2028?

The Indian Premier League (IPL) might expand from 74 matches to 94 matches, starting possibly from 2028. IPL chairman Arun Dhumal confirmed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering this move to create a balanced structure where each team plays every other team home and away. However, this would require an 11-week window, up from the current 9 weeks. The existing window is locked until 2027, so any changes would likely happen with the next media-rights cycle. However, viewer fatigue and broadcaster concerns might impact the expansion plans. Read more here.
