Highland 5, Akron 4, in Ault: Highland came up clutch in this league game to extend its win streak to seven games. The Huskies led 2-0 after one inning and 4-1 after three. Trailing 5-2 through six innings, Akron scored two runs in the top of the seventh, but Highland didn’t allow the Rams to climb any closer. DJ Rogers led the Huskies, hitting 1 for 3 with two RBI. Senior Sawyer Morgan went 3 for 3 with three runs and a double. Senior John Bingley pitched 5 2/3 innings for Highland, allowing one earned run on three hits, striking out five and walking five. Highland improved to 11-4-1 overall, 5-1 in Class 2A Lower Platte League play.
Middle Park 9, Fort Lupton 8, in Granby: Fort Lupton had a rough sixth inning on route to this league loss. The Bluedevils led 6-3 before giving up six runs in the bottom of the sixth. Despite the loss, Fort Lupton out-hit Middle Park 12-5. Senior Jesse Ceretto had a big day at the plate, hitting 2 for 4 with four RBI, a run and a home run. Junior Josiah Gonzales and senior Ivan Mota had three hits apiece. Mota had two triples and a double. The Bluedevils fell to 6-10 overall, 4-4 in 3A/2A Frontier League play.
Boys lacrosse
Windsor 21, Rangeview 4, in Windsor: Windsor engineered its best offensive output and its most lopsided victory of the season to improve to 7-6 overall.
Girls soccer
Arrupe Jesuit 4, Fort Lupton 2, in Fort Lupton: Despite being fairly competitive in this league match, Fort Lupton was unable to snap a near-season-long nine-game losing streak. The match was tied at 1 at halftime before Arrupe Jesuit tacked on three more goals in the second half. The Bluedevils fell to 1-12 overall, 1-8 in 3A/2A Frontier League play.
Longmont 6, Valley 0, in Gilcrest: Valley struggled in all facets of this conference match. Longmont scored two goals in the first half and four more in the second half. Despite the loss, Vikings sophomore goalkeeper Jazmin Frias had 30 saves. Valley dropped its sixth consecutive match and fell to 3-9 overall, 0-5 in 3A/2A Patriot League play.
Sterling 6, Union Colony 0, in Sterling: Union Colony could never get its offense going, as it fell behind 4-0 in the first half and gave up two more goals in the second half. The Timberwolves dropped to 0-10-1 overall.
Boys swimming and diving
Greeley West wins meet, in Greeley: Greeley West scored 385 points to place first out of three teams during the Weld County Championships at the Greeley Recreation Center. Windsor was a close second (377), and Valley placed third (82).
The Spartans placed first in 10 out of 12 events. West senior Timothy Kenigsberg won a pair of events, placing first in the 50-yard freestyle (21.65 seconds) and 100 backstroke (53.27). His Spartans teammate Ian Spooner was first in the 100 butterfly (53.74) and the 200 freestyle (1:47.26). Windsor sophomore Noah Abram won one-meter diving (403.40 points), and his senior teammate Joshua Abram won the 100 freestyle (52.45).
Track and field
Local teams converge, in Frederick: Nineteen local teams gathered at Frederick High School for the Weld County Championships. University sophomore Ethan Baker won a pair of events, placing first in the boys 100-meter dash (11.29 seconds) and the 200 (22.47). Resurrection Christian senior Jackson Fagerlin won the boys 800 (1:57.04). Cougars freshman Lincoln Fagerlin won the boys 1,600 (4:25.45).
Frontier Academy won the boys 3,200 relay (8:35.54). Roosevelt senior Jayden Nohr won the boys long jump (21 feet, 3.25 inches). Eaton senior Ryan Martinez won boys triple jump (40′ 9.5″). University senior Nicholas Rothe won boys pole vault (15′ 7″). Roosevelt junior Tayber Konrad won boys shot put (51′ 6.5″).
University junior Jordan Halley won the girls 100 (12.72), long jump (16′ 1.75″) and triple jump (35′ 9.5″). Roosevelt sophomore Kylie Baca won the girls 200 (26.28). Rough Riders freshman Sydney Ludington won the girls 800 (2:26.33) and the 1,600 (5:28.36). Roosevelt senior Rachel Wheeler won the girls 3,200 (12:19.07).
University senior Ava Dominguez won the girls 100 hurdles (16.10) and the 300 hurdles (47.59). The Bulldogs won the girls 400 relay (51.61). Resurrection Christian won the girls 3,200 relay (10:26.24). Weld Central sophomore Sophie McNitt won girls high jump (5′ 2″).
Roosevelt standout senior Taegan Olson dominated girls pole vault (11′ 4″). Weld Central senior Megan Hopp won girls discus (115′ 7″). Eaton sophomore Jayda Warehime won girls shot put (35′ 5″).
Windsor, Severance participates, in Longmont: Severance and Windsor were among the 41-team field in the Longmont Invitational. Windsor won the boys 1,600 relay in 3:31.09. Wizards junior Brenton Clark won boys long jump (21′ 4″). Windsor junior Kiana Cumings won the girls 100 (12.08), narrowly getting the best of her junior teammate Maya Brasch (12.09). Cumings also won the 200 (24.63).
The Wizards also won the girls 400 relay (48.08) and the girls 1,600 relay (3:54.85).
Boys volleyball
Windsor Charter Academy 3, Fort Lupton 2, in Windsor: Windsor Charter narrowly outlasted Fort Lupton to win this league match 25-20, 19-25, 23-25, 25-23, 15-12. Senior Taylor Smith led the Firebirds with 21 assists, 16 kills, two aces, nine digs and a block. Junior Titus Knutson added 42 digs for Windsor Charter. Senior Sebastian Gallegos led the Bluedevils with 18 kills, two aces, two blocks and 28 digs. The Firebirds improved to 7-9 overall, 4-8 in 4A Northern Conference play. Fort Lupton fell to 4-17, 3-10.

Baseball
Weld Central 11, Fort Lupton 0, in Fort Lupton: After a scoreless first three innings, Weld Central scored multiple runs in each of the last four innings to decisively win this nonleague game. Junior Lucas Johann led the Rebels, hitting 1 for 4 with two RBI and a run. Weld Central sophomores Nathan Dinges and Luke Witzel had two hits apiece. Johann pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing no runs on one hit, striking out 12 and walking six. Senior Jesse Ceretto and junior Josiah Gonzales each had a hit for Fort Lupton. The Rebels improved to 7-11 overall, snapping a six-game losing streak. The Bluedevils fell to 6-11 and dropped their fourth consecutive game.
Severance 7, Mountain View 1, in Loveland: Severance comfortably won its third consecutive game, improving to 12-6 overall, 8-3 in 4A/3A Longs Peak League play. After a scoreless first inning, the Silver Knights scored five runs in the second inning to take control. They out-hit Mountain View 12-3 and had two errors, compared to six for the Mountain Lions. Kolton Beidleman and Brady Iversen each had two RBI for Severance. Beidleman hit 4 for 4 with two runs, a double and a home run. The pitching duo of Iversen and Dom Rice was effective on the mound, allowing one unearned run on three hits, striking out seven and walking two.
Berthoud 13, Greeley Central 3, 6 inn., in Greeley: Greeley Central saw its losing streak extend to 10 games, as it fell to 1-14 overall, 0-10 in 4A/3A Longs Peak League play. The Wildcats led 1-0 through one inning but trailed after each inning that followed. Berthoud out-hit Greeley Central 14-3 and had one error, compared to five for the Wildcats. Sophomore Lupe Loma-Arteaga had one hit and one RBI for Greeley Central.
Timnath 11, Northridge 1, 5 inn., in Timnath: Timnath out-hit Northridge 10-2 while scoring in four of five innings. Junior Matthew Casillas and freshman Beau Rupp had the Grizzlies’ only two hits. Northridge fell to 1-15 overall, 0-10 in 4A/3A Longs Peak League play.

Forge Christian quickly took full control, going up 2-0 after one inning and 3-0 after two. The Fury out-hit Eaton 12-5 and had just one error, compared to four for the Reds. Junior Malaki Dalpra drove in Eaton’s only run, hitting 1 for 3. Despite the loss, Reds junior Gunnar Garrison had a solid five innings on the mound, allowing three earned runs on five hits, striking out six and walking one.
Boys lacrosse
Resurrection Christian 12, Erie 11, in Erie: Resurrection Christian extended its win streak to seven matches by the most narrow of margins. The Cougars got off to a fast start, leading 3-0 after one quarter and 8-1 after two. They narrowly held off Erie, despite being outscored 10-4 in the second half. Senior Zander Adfield and sophomore Lleyton Henry had three goals apiece for Resurrection Christian. Adfield also had three assists. Senior goaltender Dylan Crownover had 13 saves. The Cougars improved to 10-2 overall with the nonconference win.
Girls soccer
Windsor Charter 3, Flatirons Academy 3, in Windsor: Windsor Charter recorded a tie in a second consecutive match. The Firebirds led 2-1 at halftime before being outscored 2-1 in the second half. Sophomore Gwendolyn Dow had two goals, and senior Dillan Brown scored once, for Windsor Charter. The Firebirds moved their record to 4-3-3 overall.
Girls tennis
No. 1 Peak to Peak 5, No. 9 Eaton 2, in Lafayette: Eaton put up a worthy fight but ultimately fell to the postseason’s top seed in the quarterfinals of the 3A dual state tournament. Peak to Peak won all three singles matches and two of four doubles matches. In one of the most competitive matches of the dual, Reds seniors Evie Gavette and Lily Kennedy defeated seniors Lhadze Olsen and El Allen-Bonney 6-2, 6-7 (2-7), 1-0 (10-6) at No. 2 doubles. Eaton fell to 6-3 in duals this season.
