Denver Broncos draft grades: Jahdae Barron a great pick, multiple reaches on Day 2

Denver Broncos draft grades only two days removed from the 2025 NFL Draft.

These are snap judgements and best guesses, similar to the ones before the draft.

The simple truth is no one knows for sure how any of the prospects will translate to the NFL after playing well in college. But these grades reflect what positions the Broncos took and where they took their players relative to rankings.

Denver Broncos draft grades: Jahdae Barron should be a great cornerback

For the Broncos, this was certainly an interesting draft. They didn’t address all of their needs, and they didn’t take their biggest need–running back–in the first round.

General Manager George Paton and head coach Sean Payton seemed to have a plan, though, coming back around to running back and wide receiver on Day 2. They then helped bolster the defensive line, added a punter, and a late-round tight end.

No. 20, Jahdae Barron, CB, Texas: A

Denver started off strong with their pick of Barron, even though cornerback is the team’s deepest position and they had pressing needs to fill. Multiple draft gurus had Barron ranked as their 10th-best player in the entire draft, so getting him at No. 20 was a steal.

Barron should be able to start from Day 1, likely in the slot. However, lots of folks’ reaction to his pick is that Barron will start opposite of Patrick Surtain. We’ll have to wait and see where they want him.

No. 60, RJ Harvey, RB, UCF: B-

The Broncos absolutely had to have a running back. They could’ve taken Omarion Hampton at 20, but elected to take Barron instead. So, it was great to see them get a back in the second round. But, Harvey was a bit of a reach at No. 60. Daniel Jeremiah had him as the 99th-best player, and ESPN had him at No. 119.

Denver was likely eyeing Quinson Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson, but each of them went in the late 30s. Still, higher-graded backs like Kaleb Johnson (61) and Cam Skattebo (78) were on the board when they took Harvey.

But, maybe Payton loves Harvey for his athleticism. He ran a 4.4 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine and has good hands out of the backfield. Some are comparing him to Alvin Kamara; it’ll be exciting to see how Payton uses him.

No. 74, Pat Bryant, WR, Illinois: D

Bryant was a reach at No. 74. There are no two ways about it. He was outside Jeremiah’s Top 150 prospects and was ESPN’s 164th-best player.

Of all the Denver Broncos draft picks, Bryant was the worst, simply because where they took him. He was projected to be a fifth or sixth-round pick, and it seems like they could’ve waited to take him later and added a better player to the roster in the third.

Bryant is a big body, which Payton loves, but doesn’t have great athleticism, with a 4.61 40-yard dash.

    No. 101, Sai’vion Jones, DL, LSU: B+

Jones is a great value at 101. Jeremiah had him as his 80th-best player. The 6’5″ 280-pound EDGE will likely be moved inside to the defensive line for Denver, where they need the beef. They were run over by the Buffalo Bills in the playoffs last year.

No. 134, Que Robinson, EDGE, Alabama: B

Robinson is a true EDGE, at 6’4″ and 243 pounds. Like the Barron pick, Robinson adds to a very deep edge-rusher group with the Broncos. But, like cornerback, a team can never have too many guys who can get after a quarterback.

    No. 216, Jeremy Crawshaw, P, Florida: C

Crawshaw is an Australian who played for the Gators in college. He has a big leg in terms of length, but his hangtime needs work. It was a weird pick in that Denver signed Matt Haack in the offseason to punt, so they didn’t really need a second punter.

No. 241, Caleb Lohner, TE, Utah: D

Lohner is a giant at 6’6″ tall. He also only played one season of college football and played very few snaps last year. He did have four receptions for four touchdowns, and some are hoping he is the next Jimmy Graham for Payton.

Overall Denver Broncos draft grade: C-

Barron is a great pick, although he didn’t address an immediate need. Harvey and Bryant do address needs, but each of them were reaches to some extend. Bryant was one of the biggest reaches of the entire draft.

Meanwhile, the defensive linemen should be solid rotational players, and we’ll have to see what happens with the punter and tight end who went late.
