An old quote from Taylor Swift citing the "red flags" she'd learned about relationships at the young age of 22 is making its way around the internet over a decade later, and fans are taking note of one "shocking" insight.
A screenshot from an interview with Vogue that took place as the superstar was working on her fourth studio album, Red, back in 2012 recently went viral on X, after one user called themselves "obsessed with taylor’s red flags."
But while that user focused on number 4, which they called "tea" in the wake of fans' perceptions of Swift's former relationship with actor Joe Alwyn, others latched onto number 2, where Swift implied that she'd gone on dates with men who had felt "threatened" by her need for security.
"I don’t have security to make myself look cool, or like I have an entourage. I have security because there’s a file of stalkers who want to take me home and chain me to a pipe in their basement,” she said candidly—and fans were struck by the stark implication.

"She really has gone through so many struggles we know nothing about," they added. "...she's so strong I would've gone insane ages ago."
"'You wouldn't last an hour in the asylum where they raised me' ?☹️," someone else replied, quoting lyrics from her new TTPD song "Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?"
Another emphasized Swift's age at the time, noting that the words "coming out of a 22 year-old's mouth" were unsettling, at best, with the callout.
