Billy Joel, Paul McCartney-Supported Late British Singer Inducted into Rock Hall

Joe Cocker, the late British blues belter supported by Billy Joel, Paul McCartney and ZZ Top’s Billy F. Gibbons, is among the artists that was voted for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s class of 2025.

Cocker joins hard rockers Bad Company, early rock ‘n’ roll pioneer Chubby Checker, ‘80s new wave icon Cyndi Lauper, hip-hop duo OutKast, ‘90s grunge rockers Soundgarden and garage rock revivalists the White Stripes in the Rock Hall class of 2025.

The inductees were announced Sunday, April 27 on a special edition of American Idol. Rock and Roll Hall of Famer James Taylor served on a coach on the episode.

The charismatic Cocker is best known for his version of the Beatles’ classic “With a Little Help From My Friends.” That version of the song was performed on Sunday night’s American Idol by contestant Filo.

While endorsing Cocker, Joel said, “I thought Joe was the most powerful rock and roll interpretive male singer I had heard since first hearing the iconic recordings of Ray Charles.”

McCartney expressed his support for Cocker last month. Gibbons soon followed calling Cocker “the very embodiment of rock and roll in terms of talent and spirit.”

This year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony is set to be in Los Angeles in the fall, but a specific date has yet to be announced.
