The artists nominated but not voted for induction this year are Black Crowes, Mariah Carey, Joy Division + New Order, Billy Idol, Phish, and Maná.
Rock and Roll Hall of Famer James Taylor served on a coach on the episode.
While all the contestants sang songs affiliated with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Filo’s performance of a version of Joe Cocker’s rendition of the Beatles’ “A Little Help From My Friends” was particularly timely, since the late blues shouter was later announced as one of this year’s inductees.
Carrie Underwood kicked off the show singing Heart’s “Alone,” a song she performed 20 years ago when she was a contestant on the show.
When Underwood took the stage after her performance with fellow judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan to Guns N’ Roses’ “Paradise City,” she sported a red bandana, black leather jacket and jeans, saying she had to rep the greatest rock singer ever, G N’ R frontman Axl Rose.
This year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony is set to be in Los Angeles in the fall, but a specific date has yet to be announced.
