The arguably craziest culinary competition show returned when 24 in 24: Last Chef Standing season 2 premiered on Sunday (April 27). The idea is the show begins with 24 chefs and they will compete for 24 hours straight, completing 24 challenges on the way to becoming the winner of $75,000. Here is a full cast gallery of the season 2 chefs.
Host Michael Symonteased to TV Insider that season 2 would feature more twists and turns than the first season so that the chefs wouldn't always know what was coming. However, like season 1, the second season started by cutting half the field, whittling 24 chefs down to 12. From a logistics standpoint, that makes a lot of sense — this show is shot in real time for 24 hours, no breaks, with camera crews running around in the background of shots, and with the crew visible cleaning up or restocking the pantry, so the show has to narrow the field down right away to simply to allow for more room for the chefs, crew, hosts, judges and so on.
The premiere episode was Shift 1: Speed, just like in season 1. It involved timed speed tests, and then a very quick face-off cook. Each chef was pitted head to head against one other chef and the winner advanced, the loser went home. Newly-crowned Tournament of Champions winner Antonia Lofaso was on hand as the guest judge.
Below are the live results of the face-offs but beware of spoilers ahead.
