Rob McElhenney has already promised Wrexham squad how they will celebration third straight promotion

Rob McElhenney has already revealed where Wrexham will be celebrating their latest promotion.

The Welsh side secured second spot in League One to earn them a place in the Championship next season.

That is the Dragons’ third promotion in a row.

Promotion was secured via a 3-0 victory over Charlton at the Racecourse Ground.

The stadium was filled with jubilant scenes both on and off the pitch, but they’ll be nothing compared to what their Hollywood owners have in store.

Co-owner McElhenney was quizzed last year on what he planned to do with his squad this season if they managed to earn a dramatic three-peat, and he had some ideas.

Speaking to Hulu on a red carpet last year, he replied: “Vegas again.

“I just got back from Vegas where we did it for a second time and if we get promoted again we promised that they would be sent to Vegas.

“Much to the chagrin of my co-chairman.

“If you see Ryan, he’s going to say no but I’m going to say yes.”

It will be the third time that McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have taken the Wrexham squad to Vegas to celebrate their promotion.

Last year their stars were treated like VIPs in one of the city’s best restaurants and nightclubs, Hakkasan.

Hakkasan is not only Las Vegas’ biggest club, but the largest in the whole of the United States – and Wrexham were front of centre of it on Thursday evening.

Clips posted on Instagram show the League One new boys being welcomed into a VIP area of the club to the song ‘Wrexham FC, red army’ over the speakers.

This happened all while someone waved a huge Welsh flag and clips of their season’s highlights played on screen.

Promotion to the Championship is a historic achievement for English football though.

Having started their journey in the National League, Wrexham’s three promotions have taken them to League Two, League One and now the second-tier of English football, the Championship.

In doing so they become the first team to secure three successive promotions in the top five tiers of English football, and the Welsh side did it with a game to spare.

The celebrity owners couldn’t hide their delightGetty

The ascent represents a remarkable turnaround under Reynolds and McElhenney, who took over the side in the National League, where they’d been stuck for 15 years.

In an Instagram post on Sunday, 48-year-old actor Reynolds said: “We’ve been with Wrexham for what seems like the blink of an eye, but so much has happened.

“I remember the first press conference, we were asked what our goals were… and I think Rob jumped in with, ‘The Premiere League.’

“People laughed. They had every right to. It seemed insane… But we weren’t kidding.”
