One of Hollyoaks’ most iconic villains, of all time, Clare Devine, portrayed by the award-winning Gemma Bissix is returning to the Chester based soap opera later this year!
In a twist twelve years in the making, according to The Sun, Clare Devine will return to the village to once again wreak havoc on its inhabitants. Clare was presumed dead after Dr. Browning (Joseph Thompson) hit her with his car. Shortly thereafter, the soap introduced Clare’s half-sister, Grace Black (Tamara Wall).
Fans have been clamoring for a potential on-screen reunion between these two siblings. Discussing the possibility of sharing scenes together one day, Bissix previously told Digital Spy, “It'd be really nice to explore that. I don't know what's left in the village for Clare, but the writers and producers are fantastic and I'm sure they'd find a way if they wanted to.”
Bissix assumed the role of Clare Devine in 2006 when she took over the role from Samantha Rowley as then showrunner Brian Kirkwood wanted to take the character in a different direction.
For the role of Devine, Bissix won Villain of the Year in 2007, as well as winning Best Exit in 2008 and Most Spectacular Scene at the British Soap Awards.
Bissix began her professional television career in 1993 when she joined the cast of EastEnders as Clare Bates. She has also appeared over the years on the BBC series Doctors in various roles.
While a lot has changed since Devine last appeared in Hollyoaks, her character does have a few ties still within the village. Her aforementioned sister Grace and her half-brother Rex Gallager (Jonny Labey), are currently tied to a drug and sex trafficking scheme. Additionally, her rival Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe) is currently battling cancer.
Hollyoaks is currently building to it's 30th anniversary on October 23, with Bissix return being just one component of the soaps big anniversary plans.
Episodes of Hollyoaks premieres first in the U.K. on Channel 4 streaming platform at 7 AM, with a follow up television premiere on E4 at 7 pm. Hollyoaks then streams worldwide Monday through Wednesdays on YouTube at a one week delay.
