Colorado football players in the 2025 NFL Draft

DENVER (KDVR)—The eyes of the football world have been drawn to Colorado this college football season, with some high-profile players coming from the state.

Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders have occupied the majority of the headlines, and with Sanders going in the draft on Saturday, both have officially made it to the NFL.

While those two commanded the most attention, they aren't the only Colorado-linked players who have realized their dream of making it to the NFL. From players who came to Colorado to play to the natives who sought opportunities outside of the borders of the Centennial State, these are the players who have heard their names called in the 2025 NFL Draft.

    Travis Hunter, Jacksonville Jaguars: WR/CB

The most sure-fire pick of the bunch, Hunter had an outstanding final college season. He won the Heisman Trophy, Biletnikoff Award for best receiver and the Bednarik Award for best defender.

Drafted No. 2 overall, the Jacksonville Jaguars traded up to the second pick to acquire the talents of the young star.

The hardest part about drafting Hunter is trying to best figure out how to utilize his rare talent on both sides of the ball.

Terrance Ferguson, Los Angeles Rams: TE

Ferguson is a Littleton local who took his talents to the West Coast after graduating from Heritage High School.

He had an impressive collegiate career for the Oregon Ducks and left as the program's all-time leader among tight ends in receptions and receiving touchdowns, while finishing second all-time in receiving yards.

Ferguson is moving a little bit further south after he was drafted with the No. 46 pick by the Los Angeles Rams.

    Gunnar Helm, Tennessee Titans: TE

Colorado natives might have an adept talent at playing tight end.

Helm, a native of Englewood, was taken by the Tennessee Titans with the No. 120 pick and will be on the receiving end of passes from the No. 1 overall pick, Cam Ward.

He plied his trade at the University of Texas and, amongst all tight ends in college football, finished with 69 receptions(5th most), 786 rushing yards(6th most) and seven receiving touchdowns(tied for 5th).

    Shedeur Sanders, Cleveland Browns: QB

Sanders quickly became the focal point of the biggest story in the NFL Draft.

Originally expected to be a top pick in the draft after a standout season at the University of Colorado Boulder, Sanders had to be patient as he watched what wasn't expected to be over 100 names called before his.

The winner of the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, and 2024 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and a First-Team All-Big 12 member was taken with the No. 144 pick by the Cleveland Browns.

Following the drafting of Dillon Gabriel, the two young quarterbacks will duke it out to try and pin down their spot as the starter.

    Tory Horton, Seattle Seahawks: WR

Horton wasn't able to play his entire last collegiate season due to a knee injury, but his previous showing throughout college was more than enough for NFL teams to be interested in the speedy wide receiver.

He was taken with the No. 166 pick by the Seattle Seahawks.

Horton transferred to Colorado State University, Fort Collins, after two seasons with Nevada. He broke out with the Rams and has had an impressive collegiate career.

He finished with 265 total catches for 3,615 and 27 touchdowns. The Seahawks might have also found their next return specialist, as the explosive Horton is known to take returns all the way to the house.

    LaJohntay Wester, Baltimore Ravens: WR

A speedy wide receiver from Colora — wait, didn't that just get said?

The Baltimore Ravens were in the market for their own fast receiver capable of taking a punt down the heart of the defense, and also turned to a Colorado prospect, but this time from CSU's bitter rival, CU.

Wester was taken with the No. 203 pick and dazzled scouts with his 4.46 40-yard dash.

Wester spent four seasons at Florida Atlantic, but in his final college season at CU, he had 74 receptions for 931 yards and 10 touchdowns.

He finished his collegiate career with the sixth-most receptions in college football history.

    Kain Medrano, Washington Commanders: LB

Now enter another speedy — linebacker.

Medrano set the fastest 40-yard dash time for linebackers at this year's combine at 4.46 seconds.

The linebacker was selected by the Washington Commanders with the No. 205 pick.

Medrano is a native of Pueblo and was initially recruited to the University of California, Los Angeles as a wide receiver. He eventually made the switch to linebacker after two years in 2020 and has remained there throughout the 2024 season, when he was named team captain.

Over his career, Medrano recorded 194 tackles, 10 pass breakups, five forced fumbles and three interceptions.

Jimmy Horn Jr., Carolina Panthers: WR

Horn Jr. adds to the list of talented wide receivers to come from CU, joining Hunter and Wester as the third receiver from the school to be drafted.

He was taken with the No. 208 pick in the draft by the Carolina Panthers.

Wouldn't you know it? Horn Jr. is also a return specialist who can blaze the length of a field in the blink of an eye.

Horn Jr. began his career at South Florida before transferring to CU after two years. He finished his career with 162 catches for 1,967 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also had 17 carries for 128 yards and one touchdown.

If the Panthers ever find themselves in a pinch at the quarterback position, the team might consider Horn Jr., who also threw a 30-yard touchdown pass in his college career.
