A 21-year-old Engineering student has been detained for sending a threat message to Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir.
The former India opener received the threat after he took to social media to express his condolences to those affected by the Pahalgam terror attack earlier this week.
In his message, Gautam Gambhir also fired a warning to the perpetrators of the heinous act, writing: "Praying for the families of the deceased. Those responsible for this will pay. India will strike. #Pahalgam"
Soon after he posted the message on social media, he received the threat email. As per reports, Gambhir received death threats from 'ISIS Kashmir'. He received two messages, mentioning 'IKillU'.
Gambhir reacted quickly after receiving the threat and reached out to the Delhi Police. He submitted a request to register an FIR on Friday (April 25).
"We have been informed about an alleged threat mail received on an email ID associated with Gautam Gambhir. The matter is being investigated," DCP (Central) M Harsha Vardhan said in a statement.
"Gautam Gambhir is already a Delhi Police protectee and we do not comment on specific security arrangements," the officer added.

Gambhir is currently enjoying some time off cricket as the IPL is underway. The former cricketer will be in action from May when Team India leave for England for the much-awaited five-match Test series. Things have not gone well for Gambhir in Tests since he took charge of the team, and he will be hoping for a better result from the team in the upcoming series.
India suffered heavy losses against New Zealand and Australia in the last season and failed to qualify for the WTC final for the first time. The series against England will kickstart India's campaign in the new WTC cycle, and the team will be eager to get off to a positive start.
