Shedeur Sanders falls victim to ‘rotten’ prank as NFL Draft wait continues into Day 3

Shedeur Sanders fell victim to a cruel prank during the second day of the NFL Draft.

All eyes have been on the Colorado Buffaloes quarterback since he slipped out of the first round and sent a defiant message on his future.

Sanders has not yet been drafted into the NFL, and was pranked on FridayGetty

As the second and third rounds unfolded on Friday, many expected Sanders to be selected as teams returned to the board.

And at one point on his own live stream, that indeed looked to be the case.

With a big smile on his face, Shedeur was seen picking up the phone as family and friends crowded around him, believing his wait was over.

Footage of the call is not clear, due to the glitchy live stream, but Sanders and the other voice are first heard exchanging pleasantries.

Everyone present believed that an NFL team rep was on the phone, but it turns out that wasn’t the case, and the young quarterback was actually being prank called.

“How are you, man?” the caller asked, before Sanders replied: “Good, been waiting on you.”

The rest of the call was unclear, but it soon became obvious to Sanders that he was being trolled.

After the caller hung up, Shedeur and his family briefly discussed what was said.

They thought they heard the person on the other line saying, ‘You gotta wait a little longer’.

Sanders was then heard asking how the person got hold of his private number.

Sanders exchanged pleasantries with the caller while his draft party looked onX: @KollegeKidd It quickly became clear that Shedeur was not talking to someone from the NFL, and was instead being pranked

Footage of the cruel prank soon went viral on social media, with more than four million people watching one clip first shared on X.

Many described the joke as unacceptable.

“This is one of the most rotten things I’ve ever seen,” former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel said.

“I’m not the biggest Shedeur fan, but they dead wrong for doing this. You could see they were genuinely excited,” another fan responded.

“No one deserves that,” a third said.

“This is f***ed up,” a fourth concluded.

Sanders will hope his NFL future can be confirmed on day three of the draft

A genuine call did not come for Sanders on Friday night, and he was not selected through the first three rounds of the 2025 draft.

Five other quarterbacks have been picked ahead of him, and the New Orleans Saints sparked backlash with their decision to take 25-year-old prospect Tyler Shough.

Shedeur’s wait will continue into Day 3, when the draft resumes at noon eastern time.

Saturday will see the final 155 selections made over a span of four rounds, with 102 picks already made across Thursday and Friday.

For Sanders, it’s anyone’s guess what happens next.

After an active free agency for quarterbacks, and with Aaron Rodgers still a free agent, few teams are likely to consider selecting a signal-caller for a starting role this late on.

If Sanders is picked, he could find himself in a situation where playing time is not immediate.

And that would be a far cry from the promise he made to immediately change any franchise he eventually joins.
