Shafaq News/ Israel’s military said on Saturdaythat a ballistic missile launched from Yemen was intercepted by its airdefenses before it entered Israeli airspace.
“Following the sirens that sounded in severalareas in southern Israel, a missile launched from Yemen was successfully interceptedbefore crossing into Israeli territory,” the Israeli army said in a statement.
Sirens were heard in multiple locations acrosssouthern Israel, including Be’er Sheva (Ber Al-Sabeh), the Negev Desert, andthe area surrounding the Nevatim Airbase, which Israeli media suggested mayhave been the intended target.
The Israeli military said it is stillinvestigating the details of the projectile, including its trajectory andorigin. No injuries or damage were reported.
Flights at Ben Gurion International Airport werebriefly halted as a precaution, but landings later resumed, according toIsraeli aviation authorities.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility,but Iran-aligned Houthi militants in Yemen have previously launched severalmissile and drone attacks targeting Israel and commercial vessels in the RedSea, declaring support for Palestinians in Gaza amid the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Since the outbreak of war on October 7, whenHamas launched a surprise attack on southern Israel, the Houthis have carriedout dozens of strikes. The United States launched a military campaign inmid-March aimed at curbing the group’s attacks on international shipping lanes.
