Ole Miss just added a key defensive back to its roster for the 2025 season.
On Friday afternoon, the Rebels earned a commitment from former Louisiana-Monroe safety Wydett Williams. The former ULM standout was extremely productive for the Warhawks in 2024 as he collected 99 tackles, 2 fumble recoveries, 4 pass deflections, 5 tackles for loss and 3 interceptions.
The news of his commitment was first shared by On3’s Hayes Fawcett:
BREAKING: ULM standout transfer Safety Wydett Williams Jr. has Committed to Ole Miss, he tells @on3sportsHe totaled 100 Tackles, 1 Sack, 1 FF, 3 FR, 4 PD, & 3 INT last season1 year of eligibility left t.co/RlUbB6EMhS pic.twitter.com/2Qw5e8JjNK
— Hayes Fawcett (@Hayesfawcett3) April 25, 2025Williams is very well-regarded as a potential impact safety even at the highest levels of college football. Last season for ULM, PFF gave him a coverage grade of 78.9 across well over 700 total snaps. He was also ULM’s highest-graded tackler amongst safeties, per PFF.
Safety was a well-known need for Ole Miss in the transfer portal this cycle. The Rebels are tasked with replacing almost all of their safety production a year ago with Trey Washington, John Saunders Jr., Louis Moore and Yam Banks departing at the end of the 2024 campaign.
Ole Miss has brought in multiple other safety transfers this offseason as well, so Williams will have some competition for playing time in the Rebels’ secondary.
Prior to playing at ULM, Williams began his college career at Delta State University. He has 1 year of eligibility remaining.
