ESPN forced into rare move in major broadcasting change over schedule clash between NFL Draft and NBA playoffs

ESPN has been left with a headache caused by having too much live sports.

The network was forced into making a rarely-seen move Friday night.

The NFL Draft is currently taking place in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

ESPN is showing the event on their main channel as well as ABC.

But night two of the three-day event brings a clash with their NBA coverage.

They have three games from the first round of the NBA playoffs on the slate for Friday night.

The Boston Celtics trip to the Orlando Magic tips off at 7 pm ET live on ESPN.

And that is followed on the channel by the Los Angeles Lakers at the Minnesota Timberwolves from 9.30 pm ET.

Coverage from the second and third rounds of the NFL Draft begins at 7 pm ET.

And it will be on ESPN 2 on Friday night as well as ABC.

ESPN also has game three from the Indiana Pacers‘ series with the Milwaukee Bucks.

That game at 8 pm ET will take place on ESPNU.

The station is usually reserved for college sports.

But the network has run out of channels on Friday and placed the NBA game on that station.

In a slightly bizarre move, ESPN’s NFL Draft countdown at 6 pm ET is on the main channel.

The station switches to NBA coverage from 7 pm ET.

And NBA Countdown is on ESPN 2 at 6.30 pm ET before that channel moves to NFL Draft coverage.

7 pm ET - ESPN2 and ABC, NFL Draft

7 pm ET – ESPN, Boston Celtics vs Orlando Magic

8 pm ET – ESPNU, Indiana Pacers vs Milwaukee Bucks

9.30 pm ET – ESPN, Los Angeles Lakers vs Minnesota Timberwolves

ESPN will show the remainder of the NFL Draft from midday ET Saturday.

Their coverage of round one Thursday night drew some criticism from fans.

The channel was accused of not giving No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward enough coverage.

Some fans claimed they concentrated too much on Shedeur Sanders instead of the top selection Ward.

And Ward’s moment was interrupted by Adam Schefter announcing a trade for the No. 2 pick between the Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars.
