NFL Draft 2025: Travis Hunter picked No. 2 overall in Round 1

Travis Hunter was selected with the second overall pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2025 NFL Draft on Thursday night.

In a draft night stunner, Jacksonville made a massive trade with the Cleveland Browns, moving up from No. 5 to No. 2 in order to select Hunter and give first-year head coach Liam Coen a playmaker to build his offense around. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Jaguars traded the fifth overall pick, a 2025 second-round pick (36th overall), a 2025 fourth-round pick (126th overall), and a 2026 first-round pick to move up to No. 2.

The former Colorado star becomes the program’s first player taken in the opening round of a draft since 2011. He’s also the Buffs’ highest-drafted player since fullback Bo Matthews was selected second overall in 1974. In total, Hunter is just the seventh former Colorado player to be drafted inside the top 10.

Few have had as decorated a college career as Hunter, who was a consensus 5-star recruit that lived up to every ounce of hype he received.

While playing both sides of the football for Jackson State and then Colorado, Hunter finished his 3-year collegiate career with 87 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 9 interceptions (1 of which was returned for a score), 26 pass breakups, and a forced fumble on the defensive side of the football. As a receiver, Hunter brought in 171 receptions for 2,167 yards and 24 touchdowns. He also added a rushing touchdown.

In 2024, Hunter won everything. He was named an All-American for the second consecutive season. He won the Heisman Trophy as the nation’s most outstanding player. He also captured the Walter Camp Award, the Bednarik Award, the Lott IMPACT Trophy, the Paul Hornung Award, and the Biletnikoff Award.

Hunter also became the first player in the history of the Walter Camp All-America Team to be named to the first team on both offense and defense.

During the season, Hunter made 96 catches for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns, as well as 36 tackles with 4 interceptions and 11 pass breakups. He opened the season with 4 consecutive 100-yard receiving games and ended it with 3 consecutive 100-yard games. Hunter had his best day of the season on Oct. 26, when he caught 9 balls for 153 yards and 2 scores. He also broke up a season-high 4 passes that day.

Hunter helped Colorado to a 9-3 regular season — the best year by a CU team since 2016 — and went against the grain when he opted to play in the team’s non-CFP bowl game.
