Mumbai Indians to change training regime to prepare for afternoon heat in LSG clash at Wankhede

In the IPL 2025, Mumbai Indians are making an amazing comeback. After losing the initial matches, they have now won four matches in a row, with their latest victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium. The team is currently in third position in the points table. Now, a new challenge awaits the Mumbai Indians as they face Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium on 27th April.

The challenge is not just against LSG but also against the scorching heat, as the match is scheduled to start at around 3:30 p.m. in the intense Indian summer, at one of the most humid places in India, Mumbai. To tackle this situation, MI have come up with a new practice plan.

Mumbai Indians to practice to beat the heat

Mumbai Indians have realized that the heat is going to be a big challenge because the players are accustomed to playing at night during this season, as they haven’t played any afternoon matches. To adapt to the heat, for the next two days, the team will practice at around 3:00 p.m. This way, they can get used to the conditions properly and won’t find it hard to adjust to playing under the sun.

On normal days or before match days, the team usually practices around 6:00 p.m. after the day ends, under the lights, because they typically play their fixtures at night. That’s why they practice in the evening, but for this LSG clash, they will be practicing during the day.

Teams Facing Problems Under the Heat

The summer heat is becoming a significant issue in the IPL. An example of this is during the match between Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals, where players like Axar Patel and Ishant Sharma struggled under the heat. The excessive heat in Ahmedabad during the daytime was so intense that players struggled to handle it.

Ishant Sharma was taken off the field with the help of the physio due to the heat and was seen sitting near the boundary line for some time. He needed some time with the physio during DC’s batting. Even Prasidh Krishna, who bowled a brilliant spell for GT, was affected by cramps and had to leave the field.
