The San Diego Museum of Art’s annual “Art Alive” event returns Thursday with a four-day celebration featuring elegant galas, intricate floral displays and a variety of family-friendly activities.
Continuing through Sunday, flower lovers can experience nearly 80 floral interpretations of artwork from the museum’s permanent collection and a “breathtaking” rotunda installation. That’s in addition to all current museum exhibitions.
Thursday’s “Art Alive” Premiere Dinner kicks off the weekend with an elegant black-tie event for Premiere Patrons in the museum’s galleries. Guests who become patrons can enjoy a cocktail hour and multi-course menu before taking a first look at the floral displays.
Premiere Patron benefits also include VIP access for the entire weekend and a few complimentary tickets to other “Art Alive” events.
The main exhibit opens at noon Friday and at 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
The 10th annual Bloom Bash on Friday invites guests 21 and over to dance the night away with live music, while trying craft cuisine from more than 35 local eateries. Guests can also enjoy a wide variety of craft beers and signature cocktails, exclusive after-hours access to the “Art Alive” floral exhibition and a ride on a Ferris wheel.

Open to artists of all ages, attendees can learn to tackle a variety of hands-on art projects, from crafting a 3D flower model to making botanical artwork on blueprint paper.
Adult tickets are priced at $40. General admission for children ages seven to 17 is $5, and free for those six and under. Museum members receive free access to the “Art Alive” Floral Exhibition, along with exclusive access to vote for the Members’ Choice Awards.
