High school sports results (Tuesday): University follows up win against rival Eaton with another quality baseball victory

Eaton 16, Valley 3, in Gilcrest: Eaton bounced back nicely from a loss to rival University the day before. The game was tied at 2 through two innings before the Reds proceeded to score 14 of the game’s final 15 runs, including seven runs in the seventh inning. Eaton out-hit Valley 15-5 and had no errors, compared to six for the Vikings. Reds freshman Chase Schmitt and junior Malaki Dalpra had three RBI apiece. Dalpra hit 3 for 4 with a triple and a run. Juniors Alfonso Medina, Brody Loveland and Seth Kissler each drove in a run for Valley. Eaton improved to 11-4 overall, 3-2 in 4A/3A/2A Patriot League play. The Vikings fell to 8-8, 2-4.

Roosevelt 16, Berthoud 4, 6 inn., in Berthoud: Roosevelt’s offense was firing on all cylinders in this league win. The Rough Riders out-hit Berthoud 16-4. Juniors Kayden Bryant and Luke Unruh led the way with two hits and three RBI apiece. Junior Brady Mylander hit 3 for 4 with two RBI and three runs. Roosevelt improved to 11-3 overall, 9-1 in 4A/3A in Longs Peak League play.

    Resurrection Christian 5, Timnath 2, in Windsor: Resurrection Christian remained on fire with its seventh consecutive win, at the Future Legends complex. Timnath led 2-1 until the Cougars turned the tide with three runs in the bottom of the third. Resurrection Christian out-hit the Cubs 8-3. Senior Vaughn Green continued his season-long tear for the Cougars, connecting in 1 of 3 at-bats for two RBI. Green also pitched five of seven innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits, striking out nine and walking one. Resurrection Christian improved to 10-4 with the nonleague win.

    University 6, Sterling 0, in Greeley: Just a day after knocking off rival Eaton for the first team in years, University continued building midseason momentum with another win against an upper-tier opponent. The Bulldogs assumed complete control after going up 4-0 in the first inning. Senior Will Korby led the way, hitting 1 for 2 with three RBI and a home run. Fellow University senior Medardo Abrego went 1 for 3 with two RBI and a home run. Junior Gage Viken pitched all seven shutout innings for the Bulldogs, allowing four hits while striking out 10 and walking two. University improved to 13-3 overall, 5-1 in 4A/3A/2A Patriot League play. The Bulldogs have won five consecutive games.

    Dayspring Christian 13, Rocky Mountain Lutheran 0, 5 inn., in Greeley: Dayspring Christian secured its 10th win in 12 games in completely dominant fashion, scoring multiple runs in each of the first three innings and out-hitting Rocky Mountain Lutheran 6-0. Senior Logan Vaniddekinge led the way, hitting 2 for 4 with three RBI, two runs and a double. Sophomore Gavin Bohl went 1 for 2 with two RBI. Eagles senior Gage Davis recorded a near-perfect five innings on the mound, allowing no hits while striking out nine and walking two. Dayspring Christian improved to 11-3 overall.

    Rocky Mountain 5, Windsor 2, in Fort Collins: Windsor saw its seven-game win streak come to an end at the hands of a strong Rocky Mountain squad. The two teams were tied at 1 through two innings and tied at 2 through five innings. The Lobos scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take control. Junior Chris Valerio recorded the Wizards’ only RBI on 1-for-3 hitting, notching a triple. Senior Grant Kerber pitched 5 1/3 innings for Windsor, allowing two earned runs on six hits, striking out seven and walking two. The Wizards fell to 13-4 overall, 5-2 in 5A/4A Northern Conference play.

    Fort Collins 3, Greeley West 0, in Fort Collins: Greeley West held Fort Collins’s offense in check but wasn’t able to produce ample offense of its own. The Lambkins out-hit the Spartans 3-1. Sophomore Elliott Leffler had West’s only hit, hitting 1 for 2. Freshman Nic Hernandez pitched all six defensive innings for the Spartans, allowing three earned runs on three hits, striking out six and walking four. West fell to 5-13 overall, 0-9 in 5A/4A Northern Conference play.

    Fort Morgan 15, Weld Central 4, 5 inn., in Keenesburg: Fort Morgan handed Weld Central its fifth consecutive loss, as the Rebels fell to 6-10 overall, 0-5 in 4A/3A/2A Patriot League play. The Mustangs led 8-1 after one inning and ultimately out-hit Weld Central 15-7. Freshman Andruw Prince and junior Lucas Johann had two RBI apiece for the Rebels. Senior Ross Phelps went 3 for 3 at the plate.

    Girls soccer

    Frontier Academy 3, Weld Central 0, in Greeley: Frontier Academy maintained complete control of this league match, scoring two goals in the first half and one more in the second. Senior Dani Douglass, junior Elle Haas and senior Piper Bays each had a goal. The Wolverines won their 10th consecutive match and improved to 10-2 overall, 4-0 in 3A/2A Patriot League play. Weld Central fell to 3-9, 1-3.

    Windsor 3, Poudre 0, in Windsor: Windsor remained red hot, winning its fifth consecutive game and improving to 10-3 overall, 4-1 in 5A/4A Northern Conference play. The Wizards scored all three of the game’s goals in the second half. Junior Braely Martinez, sophomore Tatum Gentry and senior Hana McKay had a goal apiece.

    Windsor Charter 3, Sterling 0, in Sterling: Windsor Charter put an emphatic end to a three-match losing streak. The Firebirds improved to 4-3-1 overall, 1-3 in 3A/2A Patriot League play.

    Northridge 2, Severance 2, in Greeley: These two league foes went tit for tat with neither squad ultimately getting the upper hand. Northridge moved its record to 5-5-3 overall, 3-1-2 in 4A/3A Longs Peak play. Severance moved to 5-3-3, 2-1-2.

    Rocky Mountain 5, Greeley West 0, in Greeley: Greeley West was unable to slow Rocky Mountain’s effective offense in this conference match. The Lobos scored three goals in the first half and two more in the second. The Spartans fell to 3-9-2 overall, 0-5 in 5A/4A Northern Conference play.

    Berthoud 3, Roosevelt 0, in Berthoud: Roosevelt was unable to get its offense going in this league loss. The Rough Riders fell to 1-9-1 overall, 0-6 in 4A/3A Longs Peak play.

    Liberty Common 11, Valley 1, in Gilcrest: Valley couldn’t snap a three-match losing streak, falling to 3-7 overall, 0-3 in 3A/2A Patriot League play. Liberty Common quickly assumed control, leading 8-0 in the first half. Senior Jackie Gonzalez-Pizano scored the Vikings’ only goal.

    Girls tennis

    Eaton 5, University 2, in Greeley: In a dual in which every match ended in two sets, Eaton won one of three singles matches but claimed all four doubles matches. Reds junior Harley Forster defeated sophomore Charlie Sherman 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. University senior Hazel Byerly beat junior Chole Crider 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Eaton improved to 5-2 overall, 3-0 in 3A Region 4 duals. The Bulldogs fell to 4-4, 1-2.

    Severance 5, Timnath 2, in Severance: Severance continued to stay sharp, winning all three singles matches, in addition to the No. 1 and 2 doubles matches. Among the victories, junior Myla Moore defeated senior Addyson Wolfe 6-6 (5-7), 7-5, 6-4 in a supremely competitive No. 3 singles match. The Silver Knights improved to 8-3 overall, 4-1 in 3A Region 4 duals.

    Thompson Valley 6, Greeley Central 1, in Loveland: Greeley Central earned its sole win at No. 4 doubles, prevailing 7-5, 6-4. The Wildcats fell to 0-10 overall, 0-6 in 4A Region 4 duals.

    Boys volleyball

    Fort Lupton wins two, in Denver: Fort Lupton picked up a pair of 2-0 wins against Arrupe Jesuit. The Bluedevils won the first match 25-11, 25-13, as senior Sebastian Gallegos had nine kills, nine digs and an ace. They won the second match, 25-18, 25-16, with Gallegos again having a big outing with eight kills and two aces. Fort Lupton improved to 4-15 overall, 3-8 in 4A Northern Conference play.

    Arvada West 3, Greeley Central 0, in Arvada: Greeley Central couldn’t keep pace with Arvada West in this conference match, falling 25-11, 25-12, 25-15. The Wildcats dropped their sixth consecutive match and fell to 3-18 overall, 0-9 in 5A Northern Conference play.
