She now checks in as Brazil’s #2 performer of all time, sitting only behind Costa who owns the national record at 1:56.06 from last year’s Olympic Games.
Balduccini now ranks #3 in the world on the season. Furthermore, both she and Cost dipped under the World Aquatics ‘A’ standard of 1:58.23 needed to qualify for this summer’s World Championships.

The last three years have been very difficult, but it’s all worth it in the end.
“I just swam at the NCAA and it gave me extra motivation to swim here. I broke the 59s barrier in the 100m butterfly and the 1min57 in the 100m freestyle. I’m very grateful to everyone who was by my side during this difficult time that I overcame and now it’s time to move forward and do well at the World Championships.”
