They previously made 342 appearances together for the Spanish giants between 2009 and 2018.

Al Ittihad, Al Hilal and Al Nassr could all still lift the trophy at the end of the campaign.

Benzema’s side currently lead the table by six points after their win over Al Ettifaq on Monday night.

The French forward was on the scoresheet as Al Ittihad secured a 3-2 victory.

His strike also keeps his hopes of winning the league’s Golden Boot alive with 18 goals to his name.

Ivan Toney is also amongst the contenders after scoring 19 times for Al Ahli following his arrival from Brentford.

However, Ronaldo remains top of the scoring charts with 23 league efforts for Al Nassr this term.

Benzema was asked if he could overtake Ronaldo before the end of the campaign after his heroics against Al Ettifaq.

His focus remains solely on silverware, though, replying: “I don’t care about this my friend. The most important thing is the (SPL) trophy.”

The title would be the 37-year-old’s first since joining from Real Madrid in 2023.

Al Ittihad ended their title defence in fifth last season, 42 points adrift of unbeaten champions Al Hilal.

Ronaldo has also yet to win the Saudi Pro League for Al Nassr after consecutive second place finishes.

His side are currently eight points adrift of the league leaders despite beating Damac 3-2 on Tuesday.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner was absent from the side, though, as he missed the chance to add to his goal tally.

Ronaldo previously won the Golden Boot last season with 35 goals in just 31 appearances.

He is set to extend his stay in the Middle East with his current deal set to expire this summer.

The 40-year-old is close to finalising a new two-year contract worth €200million-a-year.

His extension would see him remain at Al Nassr until the end of the 2026/27 season, by which time he will be 42.
