Shafaq News/ On Tuesday, Yemen’sHouthi movement announced that its air defenses had downed a US drone overHajjah province.
In an official statement, thegroup confirmed its forces had “successfully” shot down an American MQ-9 Reaperdrone while it was conducting operations in Yemeni airspace.
“This is the seventh drone of itstype brought down by our air defenses in April, and the twenty-second since thebeginning of the Israel-Gaza war in October 2023,” the statement added.
The MQ-9 Reaper is along-endurance, high-altitude surveillance and strike drone, with each unitestimated to cost approximately $30 million, according to publicly availabledata.

— العميد يحيى سريع (@army21yemen) April 22, 2025The Houthis—officially known asAnsarallah—maintain that their attacks form part of what they describe as a“solidarity campaign” with Palestinians amid the war in Gaza. The group hasrepeatedly stated that its operations against Israeli-linked vessels in the RedSea and Arabian Sea will continue until the conflict in Gaza concludes.
Meanwhile, Houthi-affiliatedmedia reported that American forces conducted two airstrikes on the Al-Salifdistrict in Yemen’s western Hodeidah province. Additional strikes were alsoreported on Kamaran Island.
The US has not yet commented onthe latest strikes.
The operation is part of abroader American military campaign launched on March 15 under President DonaldTrump’s directive for a “major offensive” against the Houthis. Washington haswarned the group would face “total eradication” if it continues to threaten RedSea maritime traffic.
Since the start of the campaign,American forces have carried out thousands of strikes across Houthi-controlledareas. Washington maintains the operations are intended to protectinternational shipping lanes and disrupt drone and missile attacks.
