A morning fire at a senior living facility in Chula Vista is under investigation, but no injuries were reported.
The Chula Vista Fire Department said it first got a call about a fire at the Pacific Pointe Senior Living Facility at 171 4th Ave. a few minutes after 6 a.m. Tuesday.
When they arrived, firefighters saw no smoke from outside, but once inside they found very heavy smoke coming from a second floor apartment and filling the hallway.
Because so many of the seniors at the facility were unable to walk out, fire crews announced a “Shelter in Place” plan, according to Onscene.Media.
After the fire was out, paramedics checked residents for symptoms of smoke inhalation.
“This is a large three-story unit that houses hundreds of elderly residents,” said Darrell Roberts, an operational battalion chief with the Chula Vista Fire Department. He added that the fire underscored the importance of having working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
No injuries were reported, but some of the resident of the senior living facility will be temporarily displaced due to smoke damage.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
