talkSPORT betting tips – Best golf bets and expert advice for the Zurich Classic

The PGA Tour will have a different look this week as 80 pairs battle it out for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans at TPC Louisiana.

Two fourball rounds, where the better score between the pair will count on each hole, and two foursomes rounds, where the players take alternate shots, will be used to decide the champions.

Last year’s winners Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry are back to defend their crown.

    Zurich Classic betting tips

Billy Horschel & Tom Hoge to win the Zurich Classic of New Orleans @ 22/1 Thomas Detry & Robert MacIntyre to win the Zurich Classic of New Orleans @ 18/1 Patrick Fishburn & Zac Blair to win the Zurich Classic of New Orleans @ 80/1

Billy Horschel & Tom Hoge to win @ 22/1

Masters champion McIlroy and partner Lowry start this week’s tournament as hot favourites, but the pair who could give them the most to think about are Billy Horschel and Tom Hoge.

They look to be the perfect combination as Horschel is the only player to have won this tournament in both of its guises, triumphing on his own in 2013 and then alongside Scott Piercy in 2018, the year after the team format was introduced.

Horschel has also finished fourth, second and 11th when playing alongside Sam Burns and this year’s partner Hoge looks to be at the top of his game.

He posted top-five finishes at the Players Championship and the Texas Open, but he has shown no signs of settling for that, placing an impressive 14th at the Masters and then 16th at last week’s RBC Heritage, so expect these two to be right up there come Sunday evening.

Thomas Detry & Robert MacIntyre to win @ 18/1

While the defending champions will receive most of the attention in the Big Easy this week, another European pairing should have high hopes of replicating that success.

Thomas Detry and Robert MacIntyre finished eighth in this tournament last year and that performance came 12 months after Detry paired up with Victor Perez to finish 13th.

The Belgian knows what it is like to claim a big PGA Tour prize this year after he claimed a seven-shot victory at February’s Phoenix Open.

And, while MacIntyre will be disappointed with missing the Masters cut and his 66th at Hilton Head last week, he had finished in the top 12 in four of his five pre-Augusta efforts, so he could benefit from this week’s more relaxed atmosphere.

Patrick Fishburn & Zac Blair to win @ 80/1

Patrick Fishburn and Zac Blair, who played together as juniors, look a strong outside bet after they finished fourth last year.

They appear to have found their form at just the right time, as Blair emerged from a sticky spell to claim a confidence-boosting 18th at last week’s Corales Puntacana Championship, while Fishburn’s last effort was an impressive fifth at the Texas Open.

It would not be a surprise if things clicked into place and they once again got in the frame.
