THE Pittsburgh Steelers have made a fresh decision over their NFL Draft approach this week.
Coach Mike Tomlin is still searching for a new quarterback after a fruitless free agency.
The team has been linked with Aaron Rodgers after his release by the New York Jets.
The four-time MVP visited the Steelers team facility last month.
But Rodgers, 41, has yet to make a decision on his future.
And the Steelers are now preparing to draft a quarterback in Green Bay, Wisconsin, this week.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter said, “Sources said the Steelers had not been planning to draft a quarterback in Round 1, but they also were not expecting Sanders to fall out of top 10.
“Now, all options seem to be on the table, and they are preparing in case they have the option to draft Sanders.”
The team holds the No. 21 pick in the draft.
Shedeur Sanders is expected to be the second quarterback taken behind Miami’s Cam Ward.
But the Colorado Buffaloes quarterback could be taken before the Steelers are on the clock.
Pittsburgh currently has just two veteran quarterbacks on the roster in Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson.
They lost both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields in free agency.
Speaking at the league meeting in Palm Beach, Florida, last month, Tomlin was optimistic about the team’s quarterback situation.
“We’re still evaluating the acquisition of a guy at the position,” Tomlin said.
“Whether it’s free agency and/or the draft, we’re doing our due diligence communicating with some free agents.
“We’re also preparing for the draft.
“We’re optimistic about the room that we’re constructing.
“Obviously, we’re excited about having Mason Rudolph back.
“But certainly we’re going to continue to explore all our options in terms of rounding that room out.”
Tomlin added, “I don’t know if we are identifying anything as Plan A, Plan B or Plan C.
“We’re just simply looking at the field of available people, whether it’s free agency or the draft and making decisions and gathering information accordingly.”
