This ‘80s Hitmaker Is Taking Pickleball Into the ‘Danger Zone’ With Duane Henry of ‘NCIS’

Kenny Loggins is known for such ‘80s hits as “Footloose,” “Danger Zone,” and “I’m Alright,” but some associate him with something completely different—pickleball.

The singer-songwriter has lent his name to a tournament set for May 2-4 in Santa Barbara, Calif. officially billed as the Kenny Loggins Pickleball in the Danger Zone Tournament with the American Riviera Classic. It will benefit the Unity Shoppe, which supports families in need and will use the funds to help victims of the Los Angeles fires.

The tournament is open to amateurs, pros and celebrity players. Among the celebs participating in the tournament is NCIS star Duane Henry and fellow ‘80s musician Martin Gore of Depeche Mode, according to Noozhawk.

“We thought this would be a great way to do a fundraiser for the Unity Shoppe,” Loggins said in a recent TV interview. “Instead of doing a concert or something like that, which I’ve done once or twice, I figured let’s play pickleball, make fun out of it. So, I thought, let’s call it Pickleball in the Danger Zone to let everybody know that this is going to be fun and it’s not a big, serious thing, except for the pros who are coming.”

The pickleball tournament is named for Loggins’ 1986 hit that was featured in the original Top Gun.

Loggins has been an avid pickleball player for several years now after getting turned onto the sport by a friend in Hawaii. “It’s funny how addictive this game is,” he said in a 2023 video interview.

In March, Loggins was one of the performers at the One805 Rock for First Responders benefit at The Granada Theatre in Santa Barbara.
