Wiley Roots Brewing lets adults join in on the Easter egg fun

While most of the Easter egg hunts this weekend in the Greeley area were geared toward children eager to roam through a park or course to find eggs and candy, Wiley Roots Brewing Company flipped the script on Saturday.

Adults searched for brightly colored eggs throughout the day at the brewery, 625 3rd St., Unit D, Greeley.

The brewery has hosted an adult Easter egg hunt the Saturday before Easter for the past six or seven years. Miranda Carbaugh, Wiley Roots’ owner, said they wanted adults to have some fun while rekindling childhood Easter memories.

Carbaugh said the inaugural adult egg hunt had 50 hidden eggs, with about 20 people showing up. This year, there were 1,500 eggs hidden throughout the brewery’s spacious 5,000-square-foot patio.

With the number of hunters who show up, Carbaugh and her staff created a ticket system this year to prevent everyone from showing up and hunting at the same time.

People purchased tickets for time slots to go hunting from noon to 5 p.m. Last year, there was an almost two-hour wait to get a beer, Carbaugh said. There were 350 tickets available, and the event sold out Friday evening.

The prizes in the eggs were filled with candy as well as other items that adults could enjoy, including spa packages, beer packages and other items.

“I think the thrill of (reliving their) youth, but you’re getting something more than candy,” she said.

Carbaugh said local businesses reached out to her to get prizes from their business into the hunt. For the second year in a row, Allo Fiber was the corporate sponsor of the event.

The Easter egg hunt drink menu included a chocolate-strawberry martini, non-alcoholic margaritas and a beer called Pilsnerwine. The beer was a collaboration between Wiley Roots and TightKnit Brewery. Accompanying the drinks and beers were food from food trucks The Rolling Stoves and Taco Taquiza.

Even with the anticipated growth of the hunt, Carbaugh believes the time slots will allow them to keep the event at the brewery.

When only 20 people showed up to the first hunt, Carbaugh had never envisioned the event would grow to become as popular as it is today.

“There are so many egg hunts. Why would this many people come to ours?” she said. “I think that it’s geared toward adults, and it’s compelling.”
