Brighton’s clash with Brentford was suspended for 13 minutes due to a sickening injury.
Seagulls star Jan Paul van Hecke was the man involved after a nasty-looking clash of heads with Bees midfielder Yunus Emre Konak.
Taking place in the seventh minute of injury-time, play was stopped as both players received treatment.
Konak was substituted but was able to walk off the pitch, however Van Hecke’s injury appeared rather more serious.
The 24-year-old did briefly sit up while being examined by the Brighton medical team, but he was then carefully laid back down.
The Dutch defender was then given oxygen as he was stretchered off the pitch with a brace supporting his neck.
Van Hecke was then replaced by Eiran Cashin, to a standing ovation from both sets of supporters.
After the 13-minute stoppage, the fixture resumed before the full-time whistle was blown some 21 minutes into injury-time.
The injury summed up what was a bad day at the office for Brighton as they fell to a 4-2 defeat at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Bryan Mbeumo had given the hosts the lead after nine minutes before Danny Welbeck leveled the game before half-time.
Mbeumo made it 2-1, before Yoane Wissa made it three before the hour-mark.
Joao Pedro was then sent off for Brighton for lashing out at Nathan Collins, but that didn’t stop them showing signs of a fightback.
