April 11-13, 2025 Reykjavik, Iceland LCM (50 meters) Live Results

The 2025 Reykjavík International Games, which double as the Icelandic Swimming Championships, took place April 11-13th, a meet dominated by a small number of swimmers winning the majority of the events.

Martine Damborg, a 17-year-old Danish swimmer, won five events over the course of the weekend. She notched victories in the 200 IM (2:18.15), 100 fly (1:00.86), and 100 free (56.67). She also walked away with gold in the 50 back (28.85) and 50 fly (27.45), going a perfect 5-for-5.

Notably, Damborg has been quicker in all of these events, as her career-best times include 25.23 in the 50 free, 54.62 in the 100 free, and 26.06 in the 50 fly, which all came at the Danish Open two weeks ago.

In the absence of Iceland’s Anton McKee, who recently retired and holds all three national records, fellow countryman Einar Margeir Ágústsson took full advantage.

Swimming for Sundfélag Akraness, the 19-year-old claimed victories in all three distances. He stopped the clock at 28.21 in the 50 breast, 1:01.23 in the 100 breast, and 2:19.04 in the 200 breast. In addition to his breaststroke sweep, he also competed in and won the 50 free with a time of 23.41. Of the four races, the 100 breast marked his only personal best, as he has previously been as fast as 23.09 in the 50 free, 28.10 in the 50 breast, and 2:18.52 in the 200 breast.

Kay-Lyn Löhr, a 17-year-old from Switzerland, won three events and earned one runner-up finish. She clocked wins in both the 100 (1:11.45) and 200 (2:33.68) breasts in addition to winning the 400 IM (4:59.40). She touched the wall 2nd in the 200 IM, recording a time of 2:19.03.

Löhr has been quicker in both breast events, courtesy of her 1:10.48 and 2:30.57 performances at the 2023 European Youth Festival.

18-year-old Birnir Freyr Hálfdánarsson was a double event winner, securing titles in both the men’s 50 fly (24.58) and 50 back (26.73). The Iceland representative’s time in the 50 back is a new career best, while he narrowly missed his 24.35 best in the fly from last month’s 8th Ásmegin Meet.

Ylfa Lind Kristmannsdóttir, a 17-year-old swimmer from Reykjavík, won three events. She claimed victory in the 100 back with a time of 1:05.76, followed by another win in the 200 back, where she finished in 2:22.61. She also earned a podium spot in the 50 back, collecting bronze with a time of 30.71.

19-year-old Guðmundur Leo Rafnsson from Íþróttabandalag Reykjanesbæjar won two events. He took control of the 200 back early and won with a time of 2:06.71. He also touched the wall 1st in the 100 back, posting a time of 58.24. Like Kristmannsdóttir, he swam to bronze in the 50m distance (27.51).

Rafnsson owns personal bests of 26.66, 56.95, and 2:03.01 in the trio of backstroke races.

18-year-old Portuguese swimmer Gonçalo Carlos Azevedo won two events: the 100 and 200 free. In the 100, he hit the wall at 51.49, slightly slower than his heat performance of 51.14. In the 200, he logged a time of 1:54.30. He’s been as fast as 50.94 and 1:53.01 in both of those distances.

Additionally, Azevedo earned 2nd place in the 50 free, behind Ágústsson, with a best time of 23.53.
