Gujarat Titans moved to the top of the IPL 2025 points table after chasing down 204 with 7 wickets to spare against Delhi Capitals at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday. GT owed this victory to Jos Buttler, who remained stranded on 97 off 54 balls, missing out on a record-equalling ton.
If Buttler scored the century, which Rahul Tewatia denied by hitting a six and a four in the final over, the Englishman could have equalled Virat Kohli for most centuries in IPL history with eight tons.

The top three in the points table are a bit of a logjam now exactly halfway into the tournament, with 3 teams – GT, DC and PBKS- on 10 points from 7 matches. GT are top of the pile thanks to their superior net run-rate.
Jos Buttler headlined the GT chase with a stunning innings, and the highlight of that knock came in the 15th over when he hit Mitchell Starc for 5 successive boundaries in a 21-run over.
Buttler has been in top form for his new IPL franchise after the Rajasthan Royals let him go. He started the 2025 season with 54 and followed it up with scores of 39, 73 not out, 0, 36 and 16 before the home game against the Capitals.
It was a good batting surface and GT were off to a flier thanks to Sai Sudharsan’s 21-ball 36. The southpaw was involved in a mix-up with skipper Shubman Gill, who was run out for 7 but he took the onus on himself to deliver a rapid start in the Powerplay. Sudharsan was outfoxed by Kuldeep Yadav, but GT’s Impact Player Sherfane Rutherford played a stellar knock and got involved in a strong partnership with Buttler to put the side on the path to victory.
The DC innings was far from fluent, but they still managed to get to 200-plus total thanks to all their batters. They finally dropped the misfiring Jake Fraser-McGurk, and in the continued absence of Faf du Plessis, DC opened with Abhishek Porel and Karun Nair.
Axar Patel was the top-scorer for DC with 39, but cameos from Karun Nair, KL Rahul, Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh Sharma helped DC in a stop-start innings. GT skipper Gill did not bowl Sai Kishore until the last over even as Ishant Sharma struggled in the intense heat and could not bowl his full quota.
Prasidh Krishna, meanwhile, took hold of the Orange Cap after racing away to 14 wickets in the tournament after a four-wicket haul against DC.
