Days of Our Lives head writers Paula Cwikly and Jeanne Marie Ford took over from Ron Carlivati in July 2024. After months of building fan anticipation and excitement, the writers’ stories will finally arrive next Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
The official Days of Our Lives YouTube channel posted an exclusive preview for the upcoming week.
In the preview, Chanel DiMera (Raven Bowens) runs up to her husband Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman) stating she has “The best news.” Chanel then proceeds to tell him that they can adopt Sophia Choi (Rachel Boyd) and Tate Black’s (Leo Howard) baby.
A charity bachelor auction takes place as J.J. Deveraux (Casey Moss) and Gabi Hernandez (Cherie Jimenez) are fighting. To get back at J.J., Gabi places a ten-thousand-dollar bid on Alex Kiriakis (Robert Scott Wilson).
Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gerring) and Jada Hunter (Elia Cantu) are splitting up. Jada tells her former partner that “I think it’s best if we end things.”
Meanwhile, Cat Greene (AnnaLynne McCord) and Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) share a close moment, reflecting on successfully organizing the charity carnival to help save the hospital.
We also get the confirmed return of Susan Banks (Stacy Haiduk), as E.J. DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) wakes up from his coma.
Did we forget to mention that Xander Kiriakis (Paul Telfer) loses his shirt?
Incoming head writers Cwikly and Ford spoke to TV Guide’s Stephanie Sloane in the April 14 to May 4, 2025, triple issue, teasing their plans for the soap. One of the first stories the new regime will tackle is writing out the character of John Black. Hogestyn had to step away from the role he had inhabited since 1986 for an impressive 4425 episodes, as he courageously fought pancreatic cancer. Hogestyn sadly passed away on September 28, 2024. Speaking of this story, the writers said: “While we wanted John to have a heroic and meaningful exit, we wrote the story with the fervent hope that Drake would be able to return someday. John had already been off for over nine months, and there were only so many missions the man could be on. Realizing he might never come back, while praying he would, we needed to craft an exit that honored John, Drake, and the fans.”
Days of Our Lives streams weekdays on Peacock.
