Residents might be used to the high-flying acrobatics of Cirque du Soleil, and while “Crystal” certainly has that, it also takes the fantastical moves to the ice.
The show, playing in Loveland Friday, Saturday and Sunday, melds together the “beautiful gliding” of ice skating with its daring acrobatics, all while telling a story of self-discovery, according to Roberto Larroude, senior publicist for “Crystal” which first debuted in 2017.
Across the roughly two-hour performance, viewers will be treated to graceful skaters spinning across the ice or leaping off ramps alongside acrobats performing vertical feats, towering high in the arena.

(Jenny Sparks/Loveland Reporter-Herald)Larroude said the traveling show — which brings 180 tons of equipment in 18 trucks — features 45 performers from 23 nations, all coming together for the experience backed up by a large team of technical employees.
“It takes a village to put this village together,” he said.
This tour also serves as the sendoff for the show, which the Cirque du Soleil website describes as its “grand finale tour.”
On Friday afternoon, performers were hard at work training, practicing and preparing for the first show of the night.
Stina Martini, a figure skater in the show, took time Friday to take a few laps around the ice, practicing spins and tricks alone and with others. She said she thinks the show is amazing, melding together many different things.
“We have all the acrobatics on the ice, so that is very special,” she said. “I have not worked with any other shows like that before.”
Acrobat Jonny Stranks balances upside down on one hand on a set of chairs while rehearsing Friday for the Cirque du Soleil "Crystal" show. (Jenny Sparks/Loveland Reporter-Herald)Acrobat Jonny Stranks made his way up toward the rafters in practice, balancing on a tower of chairs in preparation for the show later in the night. He chuckled to himself when asked what’s going through his head when balancing so high in the air.
“When I’m up on the chairs I just hone into what I am doing and don’t let anything else distract me,” he said. “Paying attention to every single small detail but at the same time trying not to do that, trying not to let it overwhelm me that I’m on a very tall tower of chairs.”
For all involved, though, the show is worth seeing because of its uniqueness in what it offers on the ice.
“You see everything in the show,” Martini said. “It’s not just a traditional Cirque show.”
“There’s not a show like this in the world where they combing (skating and acrobatics) at such a high level,” Stranks said.
Larroude said during the show, he loves to hear the applause, the cheers and the gasps from those amazed at what is happening.
“It’s what makes everything worth it,” he said.
The show will be playing at Blue Arena through the weekend, with showtimes at 7 p.m. Friday, 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday.
