Jacob Elordi Teases What to Expect From Upcoming Projects, Including ‘Euphoria’ Season 3 (Exclusive)

Jacob Elordi fulfilled a dream with his new series The Narrow Road to the DeepNorth. The Aussie actor returned Down Under for the Australian drama, based on Richard Flanagan's Booker Prize-winning novel of the same name.

"The whole idea of going home to make a show in Australia, to do work in Australia is something I've wanted to do since I left home, so it's been a big part of my kind of dream for a long while," Elordi tells Parade in an exclusive interview.

For the Saltburn star, there was an "inherent Australianism" in playing Dorrigo Evans, an Australian doctor who was held captive in a Japanese prisoner of war camp.

"When I act in America or in the UK, there's always going to be a level of, 'I'm not from there,'" Elordi notes. "So you have to invent a certain aspect of yourself. But there's something about being Australian and working in Australia and growing up in Australia, that is, you kind of get to speed track straight to the core of the character without thinking about any of the exterior stuff. "

The five-part series charts the life of Dorrigo, portrayed by Elordi as a young man and Ciarán Hinds as the older version, whose memory of an affair with his uncle's wife kept him going while he was a prisoner of war. In Elordi's own life, love is a light. "I think in everybody's life," he points out. "It's the most constant thing we have in music and in literature and in film. It's the feeling that kind of sustains all of us, and everybody wants to love or be loved in return."

While Salturn, Priscilla and The Kissing Booth are among Elordi's acting credits, his role in The Narrow Road to the Deep North "has been one of the most special" of all the ones he's played. "Because it meant going home," he explains.

Of course, one role that the actor is known for is Nate Jacobs in Euphoria. Production on Season 3 began earlier this year—and according to Elordi, the whole season "looks really cool."

"I must be honest with you, it was so much fun," he says of stepping back into Nate's shoes. "And this season looks so cool... I'm so excited by the whole thing."

The highly-anticipated return of Euphoria and the release of Sony Pictures Television's The Narrow Road to the Deep North are just two projects that Elordi has been busy with. He's currently working on Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of Wuthering Heights and has the films On Swift Horses and Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein coming out this year.

"I am so excited for people to see Guillermo’s Frankenstein. It's an incredibly beautiful film, and I just got to see it recently, and I can't wait for people to see that," Elordi says.

Transforming into the iconic monster was "so much fun" for the Euphoria star. "I'd never done prosthetics at that level before, and I worked with the great Mike Hill, who is a visionary and an incredible artist and a great man," Elordi says. "I'm just so proud of everything that we did."

Wuthering Heights has also called for a new look for the Heathcliff actor, who has been spotted sporting a gold tooth on set. "Like a pirate," Elordi remarks, revealing he was unaware of the attention the gold tooth has received.

With his ever-growing resume, Elordi admits that picking roles comes down to the director. "I just want to work with filmmakers, people who contribute to cinema and have a real point of view," he says. "It's always the filmmaker for me, because I love the art of movies and the movies that I love are usually made by great filmmakers."

"I'm also just very lucky," he adds. "It's this incredibly great privilege to be able to work with any artist, especially in the medium that I love so much."

Having already portrayed Elvis and with upcoming projects bringing Frankenstein and Heathcliff to life, does Elordi have any other figures in mind that he would like to one day play? He answers, "I'll know it when I see it."

The Narrow Road to the Deep North, presented by Amazon MGM Studios, premieres April 18 on Prime Video
