Survivor 48 is here! Every week, Parade.com's Mike Bloom will bring you interviews with the castaway most recently voted off of the island.Days before the game began, I asked Chrissy Sarnowsky what her biggest piece of kryptonite was. Her reply? Simply put, "I talk too much." As the oldest person this season, she was ready to tear through the game with her social skills and "cool aunt" energy. But by the end of the game, the fire lieutenant was primarily lighting people up at Tribal Council while also trying to light a fire under the players she saw as on the outs. Unfortunately, Chrissy's openness with who she was targeting made her a primary opposition to the majority. And so, after another evening of open and candid conversation, her chances of continuing were doused.

Chrissy was able to find her brigade early on the island, joining up with Kyle Fraser, Kamilla Karthigesu, and David Kinne to form an ironclad Civa majority. But when Civa finally went to Tribal Council, it was a completely different situation for her. All of her allies had been swapped onto other tribes. Instead, she was left with outsider Mitch Guerra, two absolute wildcards in Sai Hughley and Cedrek McFadden, and the lone Lagi in Bianca Roses. As Chrissy faced her first vote, tensions grew between her and Sai, ripening as quickly as fruit grabbed off a platter. But plans suddenly changed right before the vote when Cedrek told her Bianca had lost her vote. In an instant, Chrissy's first vote was a historic one, part of the first 2-1-1 plurality vote in American Survivor history. When Chrissy reunited with her tribe members at the merge, she was ready for the Civa four to pick back up from where they left off. But David was looking at other plans, specifically a new cross-tribal alliance of the physically strongest to roll through the game without needing to backstab or betray many. Feeling comfortable, Chrissy began to start getting candid, voicing her inner monologue. During the split Tribal Council twist, she openly said, if the other group was smart, Shauhin Davari would be gone. And at her own Tribal Council, she spoke out against Joe Hunter's argument about wanting to get to the end on a loyal alliance with integrity, outright saying him and David were threats with big stories. When the castaways came back together, that made Chrissy suddenly public enemy number one. However, the majority was split, with some wanting to take her out as an immediate threat, while others feeling like she could be left be in lieu of a Kamilla blindside. Chrissy ultimately sealed her fate again at Tribal, however, when she continued to speak out against those she felt were in power. That meant a back and forth conflict between one of her former closest allies in David, as she tried to warn others to flip the game against them. Unfortunately, her argument against the strong proved to be weak, as she was taken out.Now out of the game, Chrissy talks with Parade about the reason behind her candid statements, why the Civa four couldn't work together at the merge, and her claim that she called out Joe and Eva due to them being "smug and blatant" about their pairing.Related: Read our Survivor 48 pre-game interview with Chrissy Sarnowsky
Let's start with where things finished. What did you think the votes were going into Tribal Council? And what made you feel confident enough to not play your Shot in the Dark?I had a strong feeling votes were going my way. I felt it at camp. I didn't even think about playing my Shot in the Dark. I was so pissed at what I was seeing with the strong players running the game.
You spoke openly in last week's episode about how you disagree with using the term "honest" in a game like Survivor, and call out how you would vote for David or Joe to win with their stories. What was your intention behind saying that, especially in such a public setting?I don't remember why I said that. But Joe and Eva were so smug and blatant about being a pair. It was very frustrating.
We also see you say openly that, if the other group was smart, they would have gotten rid of Shauhin. Did you anticipate that comment being blown up so much?I don't remember saying that about Shauhin either. But again, it was quite obvious they were working together. Cedrek was the easy vote. Easy votes don't win you a million dollars.
You then got into a back-and-forth with Joe and David at this most recent Tribal Council, calling out that the “strong” players are taking control, and highlighting Joe and Eva’s tight relationship. Give me your reaction as that conversation was happening, especially as others were responding. At Tribal. I knew it was me. Jeff kept asking me questions. A lot of questions. David was literally yelling at me. I knew I had lost it. So why not go out calling them out? Joe and Eva weren't even trying to hide their alliance. It was crazy!
Going back to the first vote you cast, talk me through how Cedrek was able to pull you on board to vote Bianca at the last minute? It was Bianca the whole time for me. Sai was driving me crazy. But I wanted to weaken the other tribes. Bianca would have went back and worked with Joe, Eva and Shauhin. Cedrek and I really bonded; they don't show that. And he gave me a nod at Bianca after his walk. I knew we had him.
How close did you come to legitimately voting out Mitch rather than Sai at the split Tribal Council? At the split, it never ever was Mitch. Always Sai.
Before the swap, you had this solid foursome on Civa. By the time you all came back together, did you feel that was still the case? When we merged, I saw the other bonds were formed. Kyle and Kamilla came to me and said they were still Civa strong but were gonna work with Joe and Eva too until it was time to vote them off. David I saw had switched to Mary. And I really felt I lost him.
Let's say you had survived this vote. Who were you planning to move forward with?If I survived that vote, I really wanted to work with Star and get the bottom people to somehow fight against these top dogs.
