SRH Head Coach Daniel Vettori openly threatens Travis Head-Abhishek Sharma after Mumbai loss

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) head coach Daniel Vettori opened up about his team's struggles following the loss to Mumbai Indians (MI) in the recent IPL 2025 match. Vettori stated that the SRH batters, including Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, should adapt better and make adjustments to conditions.

Sunrisers Hyderabad are the only team in IPL 2025 yet to secure an away win. Their latest attempt at an away victory also ended in disappointment, as they were defeated by Mumbai Indians (MI) by four wickets in the 33rd match of the season at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, April 17.

Daniel Vettori stated that teams have little control over the pitch conditions, adding that sometimes it works against them. He also pointed out that his team needs to do more to adapt to the trickier conditions, especially with players like Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head.

"I feel like no one really has control over their surface," said Vettori at the post-match press conference. "So there's a little bit of luck involved in terms of coming up against wickets that don't suit us. But I think there has to be more to it from our side that we have to adapt."

SunRisers Hyderabad were put in to bat first and managed to score 162/5 in their 20 overs. Abhishek Sharma provided a good start with 40 runs from 28 balls, including seven boundaries. However, his opening partner, Travis Head, played a slow knock of 28 runs from 29 balls, including just three boundaries.

It Was a Difficult Batting Surface - Daniel Vettori

Daniel Vettori stated that they did well for the most part in challenging pitch conditions. However, he credited the Mumbai Indians for their excellent bowling performance. Daniel Vettori also said that the surface was tough for batting, and they fell short of posting a competitive total.

"We know that conditions like this exist in Chennai, sometimes Ahmedabad. So we're not expecting to go over around the country and come up on belters. So the ball's in our court to realise that. And I think we did it relatively well today. It was just incredibly tough through those middle stages. And I've credited Mumbai, how well they bowled throughout that innings," Daniel Vettori added.

"In general it was a difficult batting surface, and 180 maybe would have been a par score and something that could have challenged Mumbai, but I think the way that they navigated the middle period, particularly their six-hitting prowess, took the game away from us," Daniel Vettori concluded.

SunRisers Hyderabad Struggled to Score Quick Runs in the Middle Overs

SunRisers Hyderabad managed to survive the PowerPlay without losing a wicket, reaching 46 runs. SRH were in a decent position, given their explosive lineup. However, their innings lacked momentum, with the exception of a couple of late overs when Heinrich Klaasen and Aniket Verma added some runs.

SRH's batters struggled to adjust to the challenging pitch conditions. The arrival of dew later in their innings allowed MI to chase the target with ease.

MI successfully chased down the target in 18.1 overs. With only two wins from seven matches, SRH are in ninth place in the IPL 2025 standings. Captain Pat Cummins took 3 wickets for 26 runs in his four overs.
