Bert Auburn is departing Texas as the program’s all-time record holder for made field goals (66). He still had another year to potentially make that record extremely tough to beat.
However, he made big news on Thursday, as he announced on social media that he will be entering the transfer portal.
“Thank you Texas,” Auburn posted on social media.”Through all the ups and downs, these have been some of the best years. It’s been an honor to be a longhorn! I will be entering the transfer portal with one year of eligibility remaining.”

— Bert Auburn (@bert_auburn1) April 17, 2025The move comes after coach Steve Sarkisian recently said Auburn was still competing with Will Stone for the program’s starting kicker job.
Auburn did have some kicking struggles at the end of last season. He went 16-of-25 for the season, but 6 of those misses came late in the year.
While it isn’t known yet where Auburn is going to transfer, the kicker figures to have many schools who would be interested. Despite those late season struggles, Auburn had received a lot of recognition in the preseason. He was named to the preseason watch list for the Lou Groza Award, which is given annually to the nation’s best kicker.
Because Auburn is transferring during the spring portal window, he will not be able to join another SEC program for his final season in college football.
