Oregon has filed a lawsuit against former running backs coach Carlos Locklyn, who is now the running backs coach at Ohio State.
The civil suit was reported by The Oregonian’s James Crepea, who says the lawsuit is due to Locklyn’s buyout that is owed to Oregon. The 47-year-old Locklyn was the running backs coach in Eugene for the 2022 and 2023 seasons before taking the same job in Columbus for the 2024 season.
Oregon’s lawsuit against Locklyn is reportedly for a breach of contract, per The Oregonian. According to the report, the suit was filed earlier this month in the Lane County Circuit Court. Locklyn reportedly owed Oregon 50% of his remaining salary as part of his buyout from the school, which translated to roughly $400,000 when Locklyn departed from Oregon in April 2024.
According to The Oregonian, Oregon has not received that money. The lawsuit reportedly states Locklyn “took the position that the amount due is $200,000.”
Oregon is reportedly seeking the full amount owed and 9% interest on top of that, saying Locklyn “will be unjustly enriched to the University’s detriment” until Oregon receives the money.
Locklyn was part of the coaching staff under Ryan Day that helped Ohio State capture the national championship. Oregon and Ohio State were not Big Ten rivals when Locklyn coached his 2 seasons in Eugene, but they are now after Oregon joined the conference before the 2024 season.
