The country music writer was known for collaborating with Brooks on the hit songs "Unanswered Prayers" and "Rodeo." Bastian also worked alongside Conway Twitty for "Saturday Night Special," Craig Morgan on "Look at Us" and Sammy Kershaw on "Yard Sale."
Additionally, Bastian collaborated with Reba McEntire, Rhett Atkins, George Jones, Neal McCoy, Janie Fricke and more.
“This was a great man…a cowboy, a poet, and a true friend,” Brooks told the New York Post in a statement. “I was lucky enough to be taken in by him as a student when I first moved to Nashville.”
He added, "I love Larry Bastian."
Previously, Brooks lauded the songwriter, declaring, "If one looks down the list of music's greatest writers of all time, I couldn't imagine the list being complete without the name of Larry Bastian," per The Porterville Recorder.
Parade reached out to Brooks' rep but did not immediately hear back.
