World Snooker Championship 2025 schedule, TV details and prize money

Snooker’s longest-running and most prestigious tournament is about to break in Sheffield this Easter weekend.

Thirty-two of the world’s best players are heading to the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield to compete in the World Snooker Championship 2025.

    Sponsored by IT firm Halo, it is the richest of the sport’s events with a prize fund of more than £2m and is one of three tournaments which make up the Triple Crown Series along with the UK Championship and the Masters.

    Kyren Wilson is the defending champion but fellow English players Judd Trump and Mark Selby are also vying for the crown.

    When is the World Snooker Championship and what is the full schedule?

    The World Snooker Championship gets underway at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield on Saturday 19 April and runs until Monday 5 May.

    There are two rounds before the quarter and semi-finals and then the final.

    The schedule for the World Snooker Championship is:

    Round One – Saturday 19 to Wednesday 23 April

    Matches for round one are the best of 19 frames.

    The draw on Thursday morning has resulted in these matches for the first round:

    Matches for the quarter-final are a maximum of 25 frames.

    Semi-finals – Thursday 1 May

    Matches for the semi-final are the best of 33 frames.

    Final – Sunday 4 May

    For those who don’t manage to get tickets to see the tournament in person, there is still live coverage on the BBC and BBC iPlayer.

    Live coverage will be available on BBC One or BBC Two during the day and evening sessions will be on BBC Four.

    Matches will be shown in full from the opening round to the final, with every ball potted shown on the BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website/app.  

    For extended coverage, audiences can also tune into Snooker Extra every night on BBC Two and iPlayer to see the action from the best of the day’s early games.

    WST PLAY, the official streaming platform of the professional circuit, will also provide full coverage but viewers will need a subscription which costs from £5 as month.

    And TNT Sports 3 will cover the tournament but again viewers will need a discovery+ Premium monthly pass which costs £30.99.

    Who has qualified for the World Snooker Championship and who are the favourites?

    There are 32 players competing in the tournament. Sixteen are top seeded players, who did not need to compete in the qualifying rounds in the run-up to the event. The final 16 are players who made it through the qualifying rounds.

    Of the 32 players competing, there are several who have already emerged as the favourites to win the tournament and the coveted trophy and a significant cash prize.

    World number one Judd Trump is currently the favourite, according to comparison website Oddschecker, with odds of 4/1.

    English player Mark Selby has odds of 6/1, defending champion Kyren Wilson is 15/2 and Ronnie O’ Sullivan is 8/1.

    How much is the prize money for the World Snooker Championship?

    The total prize pot for this year’s tournament is £2,395,000.

    From that, the overall winner will receive £500,000 and the runner-up will get £200,000.

    There is also a £15,000 prize on offer for the highest break.

    The remainder of the prize fund is allotted as follows:

    Semi-finalists – £100,000 Quarter-finalist – £50,000 Last 16 – £30,000 Last 32 – £20,000 Last 48 – £15,000 Last 80 – £10,000 Last 112 – £5,000
