Bruce Pearl and the Auburn Tigers are coming off a historic season, as the team made it to the Final Four for only the 2nd time in the program’s history before losing to eventual national champion Florida.
The Tigers are losing a lot of talent, as Johni Broome, Dylan Cardwell and Miles Kelly are all done at Auburn.The transfer portal is a huge part of college basketball, as teams are looking to reload quickly. Auburn has many holes to fill, but Pearl announced on Wednesday the signing of JUCO transfer Abdul Bashir.
“Abdul is a special talent,” Pearl said via the team website. “If he can see it, he can make it. Falling in line with some of the great shooters we’ve had here at Auburn. He has great length, instinct and feel for the game. With three years of eligibility, I am excited about Abdul working on his body, improving his skills and becoming a dominant player.”
This wasn’t a surprise that Bashir is signing at Auburn, as the forward announced in February that he was going to play for Pearl.
Bashir is a big time scorer, as he averaged 27.2 PPG, 4.2 APG and 3.8 RPG at Casper College. He reached 40 points in 4 games, with his career-high being 49 points.
The Tigers have been very active in the transfer portal, as they signed 1 of the best players in the transfer class in UCF’s Keyshawn Hall. He led the Big 12 in scoring, averaging 18.8 PPG.
On Tuesday, former Mississippi State Bulldog KeShawn Murphy announced he would be playing at Auburn. He was a key part of the Bulldogs run to the NCAA Tournament last season.
Pearl has shown the ability to build a team quickly in the transfer portal, and appears to be on his way to having another really good team at Auburn.
