Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen said that he is enjoying his current stint as a mentor of the Delhi Capitals side in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025).
Kevin Pietersen said that his stint with the DC as a mentor has excited him, as he is finding real joy in working closely with players and spending time inside the dressing room.
His involvement has reignited his competitive spirit, as Pietersen is now hungry to help players improve in every aspect — mentally, physically, and technically.
Pietersen was quoted as saying by The Telegraph, “Life is good. I absolutely love it. I love working with the players and I love spending time in the dressing room.”

The Delhi Capitals’ mentor also shared his thoughts on Harry Brook’s decision to pull out of the ongoing IPL 2025 at the last minute for personal reasons, resulting in his being banned for two seasons. Later, Harry was named the white-ball captain of the England National Cricket Team.
Pietersen said of Brook’s decision, “We were disappointed that he didn’t turn up. But those are his decisions. He’s got a big, big job now.”
I absolutely love coaching and have that desire: Kevin Pietersen's message to ECB
Interestingly, Pietersen has declared that he’s open to contributing to England cricket in any capacity if the opportunity arises. The former batter has announced that he is available to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and would be more than willing to share his experience and knowledge with the players.
Pietersen, who was known for his explosive batting, admitted that he still misses being on the crease but believes that coaching has added a fresh, meaningful dimension to his journey and that is far beyond just offering opinions sitting in the commentary box.

The Englishman added, “I’ve always been available to Rob Key. He knows that. I would still love to bat. But I absolutely love coaching and have that absolute desire and hunger to win and to try to make our players the best players they can be—mentally, technically, and physically. It’s a game-changer, because it’s very easy sitting in the commentary box and watching cricket from afar and critiquing.”
Meanwhile, Kevin Pietersen praised Delhi Capitals players for their hard work and sharp cricketing minds, indirectly mocking England players for being too casual, referring to the incident when they missed the practice on the India tour earlier this year.
The DC mentor also said that success comes from serious preparation, not luck, and he loved how smart and disciplined players like KL Rahul, Faf du Plessis, and Mitchell Starc are in their approach. Kevin also reacted to Sunrisers Hyderabad, known for their big-hitting style, struggling this season with four losses in six games.

Their aggressive, six-hitting approach, much like England’s, hasn’t been working in the ongoing IPL 2025, and Pietersen explained the reason behind the same. He said, “Sunrisers probably play very similar to England, where they’re just trying to hit a six every single ball. With other teams—yes, absolutely, there is that intent. But you’ve got to be smart.”
Pietersen signed off by saying, “You have to have cricket smarts. So, understanding wickets, understanding opposition, and playing in a certain way—all of these things blend into an all-around team. You cannot be one-dimensional. Being one-dimensional, you’re going to lose.”
