Rob Gronkowski threw most intense first pitch in MLB history to delight of stunned Red Sox fans

Rob Gronkowski is a national treasure.

Especially when it comes to throwing out a ceremonial baseball first pitch.

It’s become standard practice in modern times for big names to try and throw a strike from a Major League Baseball mound.

Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid recently impressed NFL fans — and Patrick Mahomes — by throwing out a smooth first pitch for a strike on MLB Opening Day.

    Of course, Gronk is Gronk.

And when Gronkowski was asked by the Boston Red Sox to throw out a first pitch before a 2024 home game against the Cleveland Guardians at Fenway Park, Gronk did things his way.

Video footage showed the former New England Patriots tight end standing on the mound.

But instead of unwinding and throwing toward home, Gronk suddenly turned into The Hulk version of himself.

The retired football star with 92 career touchdowns was famous in the NFL for spiking his TDs, and became one of the greatest tight ends of all time.

So Gronk spiked his first pitch, slamming the ball into the ground and grunting like a caveman.

Red Sox fans loved it and so did Gronkowski, who celebrated and then leapt into the air for a flying slam.

“GRONK SPIKE! I wouldn’t have it any other way,” a fan tweeted.

    “Awesome,” a second fan posted.

“Gronk throwing the first pitch at Fenway? On Patriots Day?? Nature is healing!” a third fan said.

“That was kinda awesome, I won’t lie!” a fourth fan wrote.

Gronkowski, a five-time Pro Bowler, finished his NFL career with 621 catches and 9,286 yards.

He won four Super Bowls, including three with the Patriots.

The Red Sox have started a new season 9-10 and are in third place in the loaded American League East.

Gronkowski could have an expanded role around the NFL this season, while working with ex-teammate Tom Brady on TV.
