Miami Dolphins make trade decision over $72 million star – and he may leave before next week

MIAMI DOLPHINS could trade cornerback Jalen Ramsey, according to reports.

He joined the Dolphins in 2023 and signed a new contract last year.

But he could be allowed to leave ahead of the NFL Draft, reports NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

That’s because the Dolphins may prefer to receive picks ahead of the event in Green Bay, while ridding Ramsey’s salary of the wage bill.

The 30-year-old penned a three-year deal in 2023 worth just over $72m, with $24m guaranteed.

And he has already been paid $4million out of the $25.1m he is owed for 2025.

Ramsey is a Super Bowl winner from his time with the LA Rams, who he departed for the Dolphins in 2023.

Ramsey is one of the key men on Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel’s roster and has been the No1 cornerback since arriving in Florida.

Dolphins GM Chris Brier said of his situation: “We decided it was probably in the best interest for all parties to move forward (apart).”

But as news emerged that Ramsey is set to leave the team, more uncertainty also began to surface over quarterback Tagovailoa.

It emerged this week that the Dolphins signal caller has put his $3million Florida mansion up for sale.

Tagovailoa joined his Florida side in 2020 as the fifth pick in the first round of the draft.

And he has gone on to make a name for himself as a leading franchise quarterback.

However, Tagovailoa missed the run-in for last year with another injury.

It has led to talk of a potential stunning trade ahead of the new campaign, with Tagovailoa previously shooting down talk of an early retirement due to fitness problems.

The Dolphins have even signed fellow QB Zach Wilson following his New York Jets exit.

And any exit talk has been further fuelled by reports that Tagovailoa has put his current house up for sale.

The mansion, located in a gated community, boasts a lake, an outdoor putting green and even an indoor cinema.

While the area features amenities including horseback trails, tennis courts and a fitness centre.
