Fans are rallying around Mariska Hargitay as the beloved actress mourns a major loss in the Law & Order: SVU family: executive producer Ted Kotcheff, who died of heart failure last week just days after his 94th birthday.
The star of the longest-running primetime live-action series in U.S. history took to Instagram late on Tuesday, April 15, to pay tribute to her late colleague, sharing several pictures together throughout the years.
"I have encountered few artistic flames that have burned as brightly and for so long," she wrote in the caption, revealing that she "knew right away" upon meeting Kotcheff that she "was in the presence of someone unique."
"I am deeply grateful for what I can only call the 'Ted Experience' — that rare time in one’s life where you meet someone who will be both your teacher and friend," she continued. "Ted spoke the truth, directed the truth, pulled the truth out of all the actors he worked with…and like a true mentor, he made my success a priority in his life."
"Thank you for being the artist that you were. Your singular, beautiful imprint is everywhere and on everything we do every day on SVU," she concluded. "I will miss you immensely. Goodbye for now."
