There are big changes coming to Sam’s Club locations across the country. The warehouse giant is expediting its expansion plans in addition to a planned major overhaul of its 600 stores.
The wholesale club is expected to open around 15 new stores per year as part of its plan and will remodel all of its stores in the process.

Sam's Club president and CEO Chris Nicholas spoke about the matter during Walmart Inc.'s 2025 Investment Community Meeting last week, explaining the company’s strategy to increase membership numbers and expand both physically and in the digital realm.
The Sam’s Club executive expounded further in an April 11 press release, stating that “This is one of the fastest, most scalable transformations happening in retail today.”
He continued, noting that “We’re investing with intention — in our fleet, our associates and the member experience — to become the world’s best club retailer.”
The goal is to double both membership numbers as well as sales and profits over the next eight to 10 years via the additional warehouses.
The 15 new stores a year are in addition to an expected 30 clubs across the country that were announced in January 2023. At the time, the company said the new clubs were coming “over the next several years.”
The remodeled warehouses will transition the company to a “register-free shopping experience,” a roll-out that began last year, reports USA Today.
In a December press release, Sam’s Club said, “High-top tables near the showroom and entrance are staffed by member specialists ready to assist anyone new to Scan & Go,” as part of the new experience.
The transition began at the Grapevine, Tex. location in 2024, and Sam’s Club said the register-free shopping experience was “met with enthusiasm, with the majority of members preferring the streamlined system in its first week.”
