Blue Lakes: I little bird told me that they thought they saw a Fish and Wildlife truck last week at the Upper Blue Lake. Was there a trout plant? The trout fishin’ has been pretty fair . The best places to fish are; The Blue Lakes Lodge, Pine Acres, and The Narrows Resort docks. Here is my trout fishin’ tip for you all. If the the water is calm like glass, rig your pole with a slip cast float bobber with a 24 inch leader and salmon eggs on the hook. If the wind picks up, take the bobber off and replace it with a slip weight. Replace the salmon eggs with pink or orange PowerBait. Calm water, fish off the top, ripply water, fish off the bottom. I have been doing this for over 35 years and it always works. Good Luck.

Clear Lake: One of America’s top bass fisheries is the place to be right now! The word is that the bass have started to move up in the shallows. Last week many bass were hanging out some off the outer piers on docks and tules at around 10-15 ft. of water. But, the nice weather has got some of the big boys (and girls) moving up checking out the spawning grounds. Drop shot, Jigs, swimbaits and the A rig’s have all been working well.
Boy, Clear Lake is a very busy place. Did you know that so far Clear Lake is scheduled host over 80 bass tournaments next 8 months , that’s over 10 tournaments each month.
Lake Mendocino: Some of my best spring bass fishin’ days have come when the weather was not all the great. Be sure to wear good polarized sunglasses. This helps you to see the bass moving along the shore. Senkos hooked wacky style, brushhogs and lizards have all been working very well. Go to the “Run-n-Gun” style of fishin’. ( Cover a lot of water ) Fish lures like a crankbait or a white spinner bait. Boom! Just like that you’ll be catching bass. The bass are starting to get in the spawn mode. Mostly males are within the first eight feet of the shore. Go get ‘em!
Did you-all know that the trout fishin’ is really good right now. That’s right…trout fishing? In 2012 the California Department of Fish & Wildlife stocked our hometown lake with a bazillion trout. And now they are BIG. The successful trout fishermen have been hooking them trolling the deep water pulling a action disc with a wooly-bugger.
The catfishermen who have been fishin’ along the river channel have been catching some nice cats with anchovies. Here kitty-kitty. Meow!
Upper Mill Creek Pond: Fish and Wildlife are busy beavers right now! Last week the Upper Mill Creek Pond got stocked with steelhead/trout. It looks like they will be back to planting the pond about every two weeks now, while the fish last? My fellow anglers, please do not allow a few folks to ruin it for the rest of us! If you see anyone doing anything illegal call the California Highway Patrol. This is a great place to take a kid fishin’. It is very important that young anglers have a positive experience when they are learning how to fish. Do not allow others to mess that up. Have fun and be safe.
